A Basic Guide to Redwall MUCKing

A way to start. By Grubb.

Basic Commands

Talking

Talking is an important thing to know. One of the ways to talk is say <message>. An example would be: say Hi. Another way to talk would be "<message>. An example of this would be: "Hi.

Posing

Posing is how you make your character do gestures. To pose you could type pose <message>. An example of that would be: pose nods. If Martin had typed it the players in the room would see: Martin nods. Another way to pose is: :<message>. An example of this would be: :nods.

Paging

Paging allows you to talk to a player that is not in the room you are in. To page you would type: page <name of player>=<message>. An example is: page Martin=Hello.

Find

This helps you see what rooms the other players are in. To do this type: find or where. To find an individual person without seeing the whole list you can type: find <player name>. An example of finding is: find Martin.

Who

This command is used to see who is connected and how long they've been connected. To see the list type: who. To see a list which is smaller and in three columns, type: 3who.To see how long an individual has been on type: who <player name>. An example would be: who Martin.

Moving

This would be used to move from one room to another. In the description of the room there will be a list of exits. An example is: [M]ain [R]oom, [Bed]room. If you wanted to go to a room, you would type the letters in between the brakets. The commas seperate the exits. Lets say you wanted to go through [M]ain [R]oom, you would type: mr.

Information

To stay informed you should check out the Message Of The Day whenever you connect. The command to see this would be: +motd.

Changing Status

Statuses are important things that show how you should be acting. The two most common ones are IC and OOC. IC stands for in-character. OOC stands for out-of-character. IC is when you act and talk like a character in the Redwall books might. OOC is when you talk about things that wouldn't be in the books, such as your computer. To change statuses, you would type: status <what status you want to be>. An example is: status IC.

Creating

This is used to create an object. When you create an object you own it and can do many things wiht it. To create an object type: @create <object>. For example, if you wanted to create a sword you would type: @create Sword.

Inventory

This command is used to see what you are carrying and how many pennies you have. To see the list type: i or inventory. To see what you have created and their numbers, type: @own or @find. To see the number of an individual item you have created, type: @find <object name>. An example is: @find Wooden Sword.

Looking

Looking at things will show you the description of it. To look at the descripiton of the room you are in type: look or l. To look at a person, type: look <player name>. An example is: look Martin. If you wanted to look at an object, you would replace <player name> with <object name>. An example of this would be: look Quiver of Arrows.

Room Paging

Room paging would be used if you wanted to make an OOC comment while you were IC. To do this you would type: rp <message> or rooc <message> or rpage <message>. An example of it would be: rooc My dad want's to use the computer so I have to go.

Jumping

This helps you get from one room to another without using exits. You must be status OOC and so must everyone in the room you are jumping to and from. The room you are jumping to must be jump_okay, only the owner can set this. To jump you would type: jump #<room number>. An example is: jump #12345. You can also jump to a player, just switch the #<room number> with <player name>. An example is: jump Martin.

MUCKing Etiquette

Being Nice

On the MUCK it is important to be nice to people OOC. Be polite and and don't make insults OOCly. Make sure what you say won't be misinterpreted. For example, someone may not realize a comment you made was supposed to be sarcastic. Writing in all caps is very rude. Using lot's of exclamation marks and question marks are annoying to many people. Room paging alot when people are trying to role-play is very annoying. If you want to have an OOC conversation with someone, page them. If someone OOCly tells you to stop doing something, you should stop doing it, because it is most likely annoying them.

Basic Rules

Twinking

Twinking is when you decide what happens to another person. You can stab at someone, but you can't hit them. The person who is being attacked decides if he is hit or not. An example of a twink would be: Matthias stabs Cluny in the heart, killing him. If the attack wasn't planned ahead of time it would be a twink. Shaking someone's paw without their permission is also a twink. You should offer them your paw, and let them shake it.

Guidelines

A very important thing is to make the MUCK like the books. In other words, there should be no humans or guns. The technology should be what was around during Medieval Europe, so no computers or stuff like that. The majority of vermin species should bad, and the majority of woodlander species should be good. As Brian Jacques put it on his 1999 North American Tour, "I'll have no sympathetic vermin or schitzophrenic mice in my books." It would be a good idea to have read one or more of the books before playing the MUCK.

Role-Playing

Role-playing (or RPing) is a big part of the MUCK. If you need any help on role-playing, it would be a good idea to ask a hero. To see a list of heroes, type: heroes. To ask a question type: @hhelp <message>. An example would be: @hhelp Is whisper IC?. There are lots of Tiny Plots (or TPs) happening often. They are usually displayed on +motd. If you would like to start your own TP it would be a good idea to go to the website and discuss it or talk to your group.
