How and why to create a website account ( 'join the website')

The Website Is Not the MUCK

This point needs to be very clear. Your website account is independent of your MUCK character accounts. In fact, a name used on the website does NOT have to relate to any particular character on the MUCK, even if the name matches.

Do not assume that someone with the name "Billy" on the website is the same as the character named "Billy" in the game. They might be, but they might not be.

The Website Purpose

The purpose of the website is to support the MUCK itself. The MUCK happens "in real time" and the web-site allows us to maintain history, post notes, how-to documents (like this one) and hold long-lasting dicussions using the commenting features. The MUCK is good for posing, speaking, and participating in the world. The website is used where the MUCK itself isn't as powerful.

When you make a website account (join the website) you get your own folder and can add pages. This is the ideal place to add your character's history, manage groups that you create, or have long-running discussions using the BBS features.

You can even post pictures of your characters!

Joining the Website

To join the site, on the top left of this page (and all pages in the site) is a box that says log in. At the bottom is a choice new user?

Click the new user? and fill in the page with your desired name, password, etc. Once this process is done, it will ask if you wish to be logged in. Do so, and you'll see that the upper-right top bar of the page now has choices for my folder and a few other things, and you are in.

You will be able to edit pages you write, and a variety of other features.

For more information, see the Plone website which wrote the software we use for this site. Or check the how-to folder as more documents are added to this system.

Join in and enjoy!
