Ruingate Diplomacy
Ruingate and its standing with other groups.
Ruingate, being a vermin city, is naturally the object of some suspicion, and who can be blamed? Vermin have ever been bellicose and opportunistic.
Under the Lord and Lady Regent, the city is ostensibly peaceful, with no aggressively expansionist policies. As such there is no vocal threat of invasion or aggression.
However, there has been tension between Ruingate and the other communities around the world. Mapleleaf and Redwall are both viewed with a certain suspicion by the city's Regency, and it is doubtless mutual.
Here are international incidents of public record worth mentioning:
Before Ruingate's founding the former Lady Regent, Sheva, set fire to the Mapleleaf council hall in order to avoid being seized by Mapleleaf guards. The Regency does not treat this as a point of discussion, since it predates Ruingate. Moreover, there were no known grounds for the attempted arrest. Still, Ruingate bears some blame in some minds.
In a misunderstanding over a known fugitive from Ruingate, a group of Redwallers was forcefully detained by Ruingate guards. Two guards died in the ensuing struggle, and one of the Redwallers, Kevarr Gafgarion, was imprisoned under very unpleasant circumstances. She later broke free, and the incident has led to other international incidents.
