Dark was... Oh, let's say about 7.5 seasons is when Darklett met her. REALLY young. But when you run with vermin, you tend to be at least a /little/ amoral.
Darklett was on a job. He had to get to know a family in a village towards the north, 'cause the vermin knew they were well to do, and they wanted some of that wealth for themselves. So Darklett was the in-guy, who would get to know the family, their routines, and overall, gain their trust.
While he was doing this, he got involved with the daughter of the family, and ended up making the mistake of getting too close with her. She got close to him, and the end result was, the night before the ransacking was to be done, he got her pregnant. Her life was spared.
