Castle Floret History
Floret, The ancient castle, older even the Redwall Abbey. Despite it's age, the castle is well kept, from it's massive main hall, to it's breathtakingly high towers. The sun warmed stones are always kept clean and dust free by the many care-taking beasts that live in the glorious castle's halls. The strong tall walls, surrounded by a swift running moat keep Floret always safe from enemies and intruders. The walls are constantly guarded even though Floret is in a time a peace.
Floret is supported by villages and towns scattered throughout the surrounding southern countryside, giving it food supplies and workers. The castle is now ruled by the Grand Marshall, Lord Kalthas Gedrain with is son Arthal Gedrain II. Helping to govern and caretaker of the royal children(son and daughter of the dead king) is Lord Bellmaker Eugene.
Many Seasons ago Floret had a squirrel king and a woodlander garrison, it had been taken over by a evil fox and his army of rats(Read The Bellmaker for more information on this). Years went by and the rats of the castle could not support it, food ran short and most died including the evil fox. More years went by and the castle became empty and unused until another fox, one of a more neutral standing, came to it, allied with the surrounding villages and towns and built it up to it's old reputation, he was Lord Kalthas Gedrain.
After a few years Lord Kalthas met Lady Valencia on a trip north to visit an ally fortress and they soon married. A few years went by and Lady Valencia Died giving birth to a son, Arthal Gedrain II. Stricken with grief, Lord Kalthas left the infant Arthal to one of the caretakers and ran of into the wilderness. Two weeks went by with no sign of the lord until he shows up at the gates with none other then Eugene and Eugene's band of Squirrels, who were on their way to the Castle. Kalthas and Eugene became good friends, and Kalthas appointed Eugene with the position of Lord Bellmaker.
