Isn't there suppost to be a guard in the main gate? When is the best DAY to go on? It seems like everyone else is always idle. :(

The guard at the gate is generally a spoofed npc so not an actual character in the room even if they're assumed to be there. If you type find you'll see everyone that's on at the time and where they are. May take more than a few minutes for someone to see you on and come to the same room as you.
