The last time I got involved in one of those (a month or so ago) it went totally bad. There were several lame poses, a ton of people showed up (making it very difficult to keep up with things), people spoofing several numbers of more beasts, and finally in the end, when the players controlling the bad guys realized that their characters were in a situation where death was likely, they conveniently "had to go" and disconnected.
Now, I'm not saying that this is what always happens, but rather it is what CAN happen (and it has happened in the past). And it just really stinks when it does. My suggestion would be for it not to be on the dirt road (being a 'tween' place, it can attract lots of people, which isn't always a good thing), but maybe someplace close by, like a clearing or the grasslands or something. If you're going to fight on the dirt road, PLAN it out before you actually do it. And maybe you do want people to jump in on it, and that's fine. But I will say, if you do, be careful what you wish for..

A suggestion: Since nobeast wants to be killed, have zombies be the victims who will die.
Then, you can slaughter with wild abandon, and when all is done, there's a field of "dead" objects and "some of the villains" (or heros!) can "slink away" and survive to fight again.

I see you point. Any battle/war needs proper planning. And it certainly would be hard trying to keep track of a dozen characters posing like mad. As to the characters who disconnect to avoid dying, AAARRRGGG!!! Why get involved in a battle if you know it will probably end in death and you don't want to die?! Disconnecting like that ruins the fun for the rest of us!
