It's an interesting suggestion. The Abbey as it is now is definately not like in the books, there's no denying that. Taking the unlinking idea further, what would happen to the present Abbey?
The situation reminds me of what (I believe) happened with Mapleleaf, which was previously Noonvale. It was renamed and moved, and another, canon Noonvale constructed. The same could be done for the present Redwall Abbey.
Mapleleaf as it is now is a very nice community, and without the pressures of having to be canon it shows some really interesting development.
