Text-based systems

Sounds would only work if people had special clients. There are such clients, of course.

But I'm more worried about the basics, such as having good descriptions and people enjoying themselves.

Having blinking purple on yellow background showing the doing message (or that a comfy chair is FLASHING RED comfy) doesn't really help making descriptions better.

Somehow, Brian Jacques managed to describe many things with nothing more sophisticated than black ink on paper.

Besides, I'm sure we've all been on games where they had all the color and discovered that lots of colors mixed freely doesn't actually help.

Something like that would, I'm afraid, probably be mostly annoying. And not all clients used to connect support colour, and most probably not sound.
