Ah, it's very tricky to build a spatial map of the MU. As in: it's not technically possible to make an accurate three-space (3D) or two-space model of the nodal system.
If you use the +pathfind program (+help +pathfind for details) then try to walk around an area you own, you'll notice your "view" of the space and the MU's knowledge are very different things.
Actually, telling people how to get places is what +reach is designed for. We've got a lot of places that can be "reached by walking." Getting people to go to places with directions is a good start for getting them to see things.
