Having people on the help-list who don't help is really annoying not just to guests but in general.
However, in fairness to the helpers, I've seen people that do "@help new character" two times right away. They basically annoy the helpers to the point they get ignored.
That said, a really good helper doesn't just invoke "+pcreate" but actually takes the time to help a new player setup their character well and get started playing. That's more work than just typing +pcreate, but the results are much better for all involved.
Typing '+staff' will show the helpers, and paging them directly is reasonable. If they don't respond to that, type 'where name' and see if they're idle. They might have stepped away from the computer.
If they ignore you from pages, then send me (brianj@otterspace.com) an email and include a log that includes the output from 'date' at the time of the page and the time of the next page, and shows 'where' that shows them not idle. I'm sure most of them won't want to explain that they chose to ignore your pages to me.
