Helpers That Don't Help?

Posted by FreelanceWolf at 2005-03-28 01:31 PM
I don't know if it's just me, but I feel that the Helpers on the muck aren't really helping. The instructions in the muck say to either type @help new character or page a staffer in order to get your character created, but nobody seems to respond.

After I got my character created, a friend of mine logged on the next day to join as well, and she had to wait at least half an hour (or more) for her character to get created. She only got her character after someone finally did page her asking if she needed any help.

I got another friend of mine to join a few days later as well, and he too had to wait a while before he got his character. I really don't think people should have to wait upwards to an hour after setting up their character info.

However, there are two helpers that I must commend because they -did- help when asked. Those two people are Antonia (I think that's her) and Taili. They were very helpful and did their job. Congrats.

P.S. How can you find out the date where you've joined the muck? I'd love to apply for a Helper position 'cause I really like helping guests out.

It's a problem

Having people on the help-list who don't help is really annoying not just to guests but in general.

However, in fairness to the helpers, I've seen people that do "@help new character" two times right away. They basically annoy the helpers to the point they get ignored.

That said, a really good helper doesn't just invoke "+pcreate" but actually takes the time to help a new player setup their character well and get started playing. That's more work than just typing +pcreate, but the results are much better for all involved.

Typing +staff will show the helpers, and paging them directly is reasonable. If they don't respond to that, type where name and see if they're idle. They might have stepped away from the computer.

If they ignore you from pages, then send me (brianj@otterspace.com) an email and include a log that includes the output from date at the time of the page and the time of the next page, and shows where that shows them not idle. I'm sure most of them won't want to explain that they chose to ignore your pages to me.

And to see when you joined, type @when me.
