Drama!
Lumar sits in the sand, or rather, is digging in the sand, attempting to burrow down. He's not having too much luck though, as the sand keeps caving in on him....
The beach is a dangerous place for a kid to be all alone like that. Mwahahahaha. That's why Darklett followed Lumar out, and is watching from a reasonably close, but non-intrusive distance away... After all, he really has nothing better to do, so he might as well make sure the rabbit stays out of harm's way. As he sits and watches out for Lumar, he has, as almost always, knives out in his paws, and is spinning them around without much regard to anything. It's cold out here.
Lumar finally finds a good section of sand and quickly burrows a small tunnel under the sand, where he stays. This isn't to last though, as the tunnel quickly collapses on him, burrying him in the sand. He gives an inaudible squeek, trapped under the damp sand.
Spying the two figures, reasonably far apart, on the shore, Sundew makes her way over to Darklett and sits herself down on the sand, without a word. She has been looking for Jarril all afternoon, after a report, and is now not in the mood to do much else except sit about. She watches the young rabbit playing for a while, before finally addressing the hare next to her. "Y'alright there, Dark?"
Darklett yawns, looking upshore, then looking downshore. Hohum, no danger, how predictable. He smiles and gives a salute to Sundew as she sits down. "Yeah, I'm alright, I'm just watchin'..." Hey, where'd Lumar go? Darklett stands up, perking his ears and becoming alert. "...Lumar?" Darklett starts walking down the sand dune he'd been sitting on, eyes peeled for the rabbit, who's suddenly performed a disappearing act.
Lumar squirms and tries to free himself, but is unable to move under the heavy sand, and the fact that he's on his stomach. He whimpers as the sand creeps closer and closer around him, the air running out, "Help..." he pleads quietly.
Sundew leaps up from her position, following Dark down the sand dune and casting her eyes about the shore. "He can't have run off somewhere, we'd have seen 'im.." she murmurs to herself. "He probably fell down a hole he was digging." she calls to Darklett. "Scour around this area, quick.." she says, also following her own instruction.
Darklett nods, scanning the ground, kicking through sand. "He was somewhere over here..." he informs Sundew, falling to his paws and knees and clearing as much of the sand as he can. "He could be anywhere under here... Lumar!" He calls out, hoping he can hear some kind of response.
Lumar hears a muffled call for him, and tries to reply, only to have his mouth and nose filled with sand. "He....lp.." is all he can get out before he starts choking on sand. He's so scared right now....and he can't move...
In her search for Lumar, Sundew's footpaw goes right through the sand, into a hole. Cursing herself, she pull it loose, but on further inspection, the hole appears to be the end of a small tunnel. "Dark! Over here!" she yells, dropping to her knees and digging away sand as quickly as possible.
Darklett lifts his head up from his search, looking over to the Colonel. He gets to his footpaws and rushes over to her. "Did you find him?" He starts to dig into the sand furiously, sand flying from his paws as he digs.
Lumar looks about frantically underground, and finds his footpaw can wiggle a bit as Sundew and Darklett remove some of the sand above him. He needs air, but all he can breath is sand, so in increasing panic, he wiggles his footpaw some more, hoping that someone can see it....
"There!" Sundew points to a crack appearing in the sand to her left. Furiously, she tunnels downwards, sand flying, hoping to unearth the rabbit. "His air supply must be completely cut off.." she gasps, spitting sand from her mouth. Finally, her paw comes into contact with something- Lumar's footpaw. "I've got im! We need to dig the rest of him out, an quick!"
Darklett continues to frantically take pawfuls of sand an toss them behind him, looking worried as he double-times his digging, trying to bring the rabbit to surface as quickly as possible after Sundew vocalizes what he'd been thinking. Then, she cries out that she has him, and he relocates himself to dig around the footpaw area, clearing out the sand around the rabbit.
Lumar can still barely move as he is finally freed from the sand, the action of trying to breathe taking most of his energy. He's literally drowning in sand, barely managing to flip himself onto his back, his eyes looking up desperately at the two hares as he clings desperately to conciousness. The rabbit's a fighter, no doubt about that, and he's fighting for all he's worth.
Sundew hauls the sand covered rabbit from the collapsed tunnel with alacrity- a last, huge effort. Placing her head near to his mouth, she confirms, "He's still breathin', and conscious..though there's no telling how much sand he's swallowed." Kneeling over the poor rabbit, she taps his face lightly, speaking loudly. "C'mon Lumar, stay with us, keep breathin'.. that's it, nice and easy, deep breaths.. Dark, can you support his head?"
Darklett nods. "Yes, Colonel." He does as ordered, looking down at Lumar with worry. "Surprised he's not dead. How long do you think he went without air?" He continues to glance at Lumar's face with a frown. "C'mon, Lumar, keep breathing, you'll get through this..."
Lumar takes very shallow, labored breaths, as much air as he can get through the sand. Tears begin to form in his eyes as darkness begins to creep in on his vision, he doesn't want to die....With the last of his energy, he flips himself back over, onto all fours and out of Sundew's grip, and vomits, blood and sand, until all of the sand is out of his lungs, at which point he slumps to the side and passes out.
Alarmed, Sundew, with Darklett's assistance, turns Lumar over onto his back again. She tilts his head back into Dark's paws and places her own paces over his nose and chin in order to open his mouth, into which she breathes deeply. Locking her paws together, she places them on his small chest and pushes down. 1, 2. She breathes again, repeating the same pattern; 1,2, hoping to bring the rabbit back to consciousness. "C'mon..c'mon Lumar.."
In between a set of compressions, Lumar coughs, more blood spilling over his lips from his injured lungs, and begins breathing again. He opens his eyes slowly, weakly, each breath causing him intense pain, seeing his rescuers, and mouthing a thank you. He does stay concious though, just very limp.
"We can't stay out here.. 'tis cold." Sundew notes, feeling the wind as she says it. Gently, she places a paw over Lumar's brow, an almost maternal gesture. Reaching her paws underneath his small body, she lifts him carefully, pulling herself into a standing position, once she has hold of him firmly. "C'mon, young un, keep breathin..think of all the fun you c'n have once you're feelin' better, eh?" Glancing at Dark, she says, "We've gotta get 'im up to the 'firmary, and quicklike." Together, the two hares, one carrying the small rabbit, make their slow but steady way back into the mountain.
