Of Gun... Err, bow control and squirrelbabes
5-9-04 Characters involved (in order of appearance) Darklett Nagia Nemesis Maeva Kevarr Kail Shadowbow Elminster Moruwil Oxeye
****EDITOR'S NOTE** Okay, to help this make sense, I think I'll give you some background on the situation that I didn't pick up in the log. Darklett, about three weeks prior to this rp, gave Kail a mock bow for him to play with, because he wanted one. He was just being nice. You know. :) Anyway, Kevarr and others don't like this too much, and as Darklett enters, are arguing on the situation with Nemesis and Shadowbow, who gave Kail the padded training arrows. And, I think that's all you need to know. **EDITOR'S NOTE****
Darklett walks very slowly and with calculation into the library, because as he approached the place, much arguing was heard... Trying to stay a bit unnoticed so as to listen uninterruptedly, the buck creeps in and leans against a wall near the doorway.
Nagia looks to Kail. "That doesn't mean they're not dangerous. An arrow with a sandbag tied to it 'kin still cause injury."
Nemesis bows her head and turns away, humbled. After all, what does she know about dibbuns and the intricate workings of the abbey. "Aye, yer right, missus.." she concedes, shutting the book with one paw and immediately seeking another out with the other.
Nagia smiles. "I shoot, lad. Take it from me, you wanna wait 'till yer older."
Maeva idly begins unstringing the bow.
Kevarr nods politely to Nemesis, then rubs her eyes. "Aie..." She looks at Nagia. "Have you seen Rahier?"
Kail, however, isn't going to be separated from his pride and joy so easily, and tries to pull is away again. "Lemme go!" he says, evidently getting more distressed.
Nagia looks at Kevarr, shaking his head. "Nah, but I'm gonna talk to 'im when I do. Amethyst explained this situation to me a while back." Darklett sees the distress Kail is in over the bow he made him. "Mm. What's wrong, here? Why you taking away his bow?"
Nagia looks over to Darklett, lifting his paw. "Better question: Why does he HAVE a bow?"
Maeva hangs onto it firmly, continuing to work at unstringing it with her other paw. The dibbun's protests go ignored. As well as comments by others.
Kevarr nods again. "Better you than me, I imagine. Most of my conversation would be challenging his intelligence. But he needs to keep a sharper eye on--" Earperk. Her eyes narrow on Darklett. "Why are you asking that absurd question? And further, why do I here it was you who gave it to him?"
Nemesis perks an ear, "What about lettin' somebeast go outside the walls with him, missus.. to let him shoot out in'ter the wilderness and get it out o' his system."
Nagia looks at Nemesis. "Beasts live in the wilderness as well." Kevarr asks, "What about saying no and meaning it for once?"
Darklett lowers his eyebrows, speaking slowly. "Why does anybeast ask a question? Because I want to know, of course. And you hear I gave it to him because I did. Why is it such an ordeal?"
Nagia says, "Y'never shoot unless you have a target. Shooting randomly into the woods is dangerous business."
Kail just keeps pulling. x.x
Nemesis blinks at Nagia, "And the grasslands?"
Kevarr closes her eyes for a moment and licks her lips. She then looks up at Darklett and gives him the most sarcastic look she can manage.
Kevarr says, "Think over your question really carefully. Really carefully. And then you tell me."
Nagia nods. "Aye. Y'never know what could be under the tall grass. Safety precautions are all-purpose."
"A target could be set up easily in the grasslands.. and he'd only be a few yards from it- he's too small to shoot much further. Doesn't seem that dangerous to me- him being highly supervised 'n all," Nemesis continues.
Darklett looks at Kevarr and smiles back. "A bow is no good without arrows. I believe it was that otter Shadowbow that gave him those. And besides..." Now he looks at Kail again... Almost apologetically. "...that bow took me all of thirty seconds to make. Not even the most skilled bowbeast would be able to shoot the most finely crafted arrow from that bow more than..." He looks away from him to a wall, judging distance. "...maybe 4 paces from him or her."
Kevarr continues to look at Darklett severely. "You gave him a weapon. I don't care if he made it himself, it's /still/ a weapon. If a beast is four paces or less from him, then it doesn't matter much how badly the bow is made, does it?"
Maeva gets the string unfastened from the top. She glances idly toward the others, "Kev, I had just been startin' to think some smart beasts were comin' back. I think I was wrong."
Kail seems to get quite upset as the bow suddenly transforms into a staff, and his bottom lip starts wobbling visibly. "Ya broked it!" he accuses Maeva.
Nemesis bristles a tad at Maeva's comment, "Beasts are just askin' simple questions, missus.. No need tae be insultin' their intelligence."
Maeva says, "Questions that are so simple they shouldn't be asked by intelligent creatures."
Darklett looks to Kevarr, just as severely as she's looking at him. "If a sharp arrow were not going fast enough to reach any more than four paces from the bowbeast, it would not have enough force to pierce fur. And you should know that, being the oh so intelligent one around here. Besides, do you see tips on the arrows the otter gave him? The arrows he does have are completely harmless, especially when shot by that bow."
Shadowbow walks over to Kail, "Lets go get some cake before they try to break something else."
Nemesis eyes, "It doesn't mean yae have to be givin' backpawed comments, missus."
Nagia scratches behind his ear. "That'd be well and good. But as it is, the lad's got a weapon inside Redwall." He glances over his shoulder. "Y'know, I'm actually a little worried. I know -my- daughter won't be holding a weapon 'till she's as old as I was when -I- first held one..." He looks at Maeva. "Methinks they just confuse a child's perspective with their own. They don't understand that children aren't responsible adults." He glances to Shadowbow. "...Or the adults could be about as juvenile as children. That works, too. Oi, are you sure YOU should have weapons, lad?"
Maeva looks down at Kail, "Aye. If I clap eyes on ye holdin' another bow, yore goin' to be in big trouble, matey. Worse than no sweets for a season...And otter, ye aren't goin' noplace with him 'til I chat with ye."
Kevarr sighs. "Okay. Listen to me. For one minute. I have a daughter. One day, she found a rather sharp stick. She was playing with it, like a sword. She pricked her paw. It was very minor, but it did draw blood. I took the stick away. Why? Because she could hurt herself or others. She asked me for a sword once. I didn't give her one. Why? Because she could hurt herself or others. I don't give my children bows. Why? /Because they could hurt themselves or others/. Haven't you ever released the draw too soon? You can get a nasty cut from the string."
Kevarr says, "Sometimes when my children ask me for something, I tell them no. Because they could hurt themselves. And they whine, and they cry, but I don't give in, because that makes spoiled children." Kevarr says, "And because I don't want to find them stabbing themselves with a sharp implement."
Kevarr says, "Because kids /do not know/ how dangerous these things can be."
Darklett drops his shoulders, obviously annoyed. "The stick's not sharp, Kevarr. The stick is the worst-crafted and most terribly useless stick in the whole bloody forest."
Kail drops what is basically now a fishing rod with a clatter. "/Waaaahhhhhh!/" he wails, like any other dibbun who's favourite toy has been broken. After all, it really is a harmless toy in his view.
Kevarr stands. "Maeva. Give me the bow." She holds out her paw. "I guess I'll have to give a demonstration.
Nagia mehs. "And since the hare claims the bow was poorly made, there's nothin' stoppin' the string from snappin' an' givin' the kid an even worse cut.."
Nagia asks, "Y'ever seen a bowbeast get 'is string cut? While e was drawin, even?"
Maeva glances at the bow, then holds it out to Kev, "Er...need to restring it, maybe." The wailing dibbun is ignored.
Nagia says, "Great big red line from ear t'toe."
Darklett says, "The string, if snapped, would merely become loose. It's not even tight enough to fire an arrow."
Kevarr takes the bow. She lays in on the table and restrings the bow. "Okay, students. Watch carefully." She hefts the bow in her one paw. "Let me demonstrate all the ways this thing is dangerous to someone who doesn't know how to be responsible with it."
Kail just keeps wailing. Poor Kailey. :'(
Darklett's voice grows a bit louder. "If you think for a second that I would create something for this small squirrel that I truly believe would cause harm, then you have underestimated me as a hare. Give me dish duty or any other mindless task you will, the bow is harmless unless you try to make it harmful."
Maeva says, "Idiot."
Shadowbow picks up Kail, ignoring Meava, "Lets get some cake they're not going to be any more friendly."
"..Which I believe the missus is going to do.." mutters Nemesis to Darklett.
Darklett adds, "And that is to say, if you were to use it for something BESIDES firing an arrow."
"First," Kevarr swings the bow sharply through the air like a club. "I could smack you between the ears. Then," she jabs the tip of the bow end in Darklett's direction. "I could poke your eyes. THEN..."
Maeva moves to take Kail from Shadowbow, "And you quiddit."
Kevarr pulls the bow over her head, and fiddles with the shaft. "I could choke myself in the line."
Darklett chuckles. "And look. All these books. A beast could easily sneak up behind another and smash the other in the back of the head. Why don't we all chuck the books into a big firepit?"
Nemesis bristles yet again, this time narrowing her eyes at Maeva. "Miss Otter, I believe you're insults are quite unacceptable - especially in an Abbey with children about. Calling beasts idiots is simply uncalled for.."
Kevarr asks, "Are you paying attention at all, Darklett?"
Darklett smiles. "I am paying attention. But you aren't. You're too self-important for paying attention to anybeast else but yourself. By the way, make sure there aren't any harmful and deadly sticks or rocks in the abbey, can't have innocent dibbuns playing with them, either."
Nagia says, "Look 'n listen, hare. I imagine you'll learn plenty about yer own weapons this way."
Kail whimpers some as he's picked up by Shadow, not really wanting to be picked up. However, he whimpers more as the cruel bullying form of the other otter tries to take him. He hides his face in his tailbrush, crying into it like a hanky.
Shadowbow looks back at Kevarr dodging Meava, "That's why you teach them how to use it."
Kevarr pulls the bow back over her head. "That was a no, I take it. Okay. Here's a plan. How about I go give this squirrel here a sharp dagger to play with."
Kevarr says, "Or a dull broken sword."
Nagia smirks. "Or you know what? Perhaps we should get responsible beasts to take care of the dibbuns to make sure they don't get a hold of anything dangerous an' use them t'hurt themselves or somebeast else."
Nemesis clears her throat, "I hardly would call a small stick with a loose string something as dangerous as a dagger.."
Darklett says, "Then you'd be giving him a useful weapon. That bow is as dangerous as any woodland stick."
Kevarr says, "That's rather the point of being a parent and /watching/ after your children."
Kevarr says, "Squirrel, I just demonstrated how he could have choked himself."
Kevarr says, "He had that bow /around his neck/ before any of you came in."
Darklett asks, "And guess what? He's not dead. He's not choked to death. Wonder why? Because it isn't DANGEROUS."
Kevarr asks, "It isn't dangerous to have a line twisted around your neck?"
Nagia says, "He's not dead 'cause a responsible adult intervened."
You say, "Just about as dangerous as unstringing the bow so the line is easier to wrap around your neck."
Nagia says, "You said yourself it was loose."
Nagia asks, "Why couldn't th'lad do just that?"
Darklett looks to Nagia now. "Because he wouldn't want to break his favorite bloody toy."
Kevarr settles back in her seat. "...Okay. Enough arguing. I find it clear that neither you nor Shadowbow are capable of being responsible around children. Shadowbow, please put Kail down."
Kevarr says, "Tomorrow, I'd like to see both of you out in the open grounds. We'll go over basic weaponry safety."
Maeva goes to grab Shadow by the back of the tunic, "Ye even think about running, and you'll regret it, matey."
Nagia says, "And I think we can arrange a talk for both of ye with miss Sunrose."
Kevarr says, "Then we'll go over the basics of dibbun behavior."
Darklett looks back at Kevarr. "How about you go over the basics of rational thought?"
Kevarr says, "I have. You've missed it completely."
Kevarr says, "I expect to see you there, Darklett, or I will go to your superiors."
Kevarr says, "I need to know that one of Redwall's protectors knows how to respect weaponry, and that weapons are not toys."
Nemesis eyes Maeva yet again as she goes to grab a perfectly grown otter by the back of the tunic. "You're rather violent and rude to be part of an abbey, marm.."
"How about you show some /respect/ sir." The rabbit Elminster pads in, staying near the door in the crowed room. "May I ask what is this all about?" His ears point up and he looks towards Darklett then Kevarr and the others.
Kevarr twitches as Elminster enters.
Shadowbow looks back at Meava, "You shouldn't be so billigerent."
Kevarr says, "Shadowbow, you will be at this lesson as well, or you will lose your privilege of carrying weapons for your safety within the walls."
Darklett smiles. "Well, in that case, I'll be there. But don't expect me to be taught anything I didn't already know. Saying a stick attached to a string is a dangerous weapon is as much as saying we must all go about with our paws behind our backs, fates save we must ever want to swing them."
Maeva addresses Nemesis, "I'm not an Abbeybeast, I'm a Bahari." Then Shadow, "Gimme the dibbun, matey. Ye've already proven ye aren't fit to watch him."
Kevarr says, "If you knew it, we wouldn't be having this conversation, because it never would have crossed your mind that giving a weapon, even a poorly made one, to a child was a good idea."
The rabbit listens, seeming confused.
Nemesis counters Maeva, "By yore actions and unacceptable behavior, I'd see it as being worse having the dibbun in your care."
Nagia says, "A string attached to a stick -IS- a weapon, actually."
Maeva says, "Think what ye like."
Nagia says, "It's called a bow, or a crude whip. Y'know, or a crude flail."
Shadowbow frowns at Meava, "Your the violent one, I never laid a paw on any beast."
Darklett points to a book. "And that's a blunt object. You know what else are blunt objects? Clubs. Staves. Slingstones."
Darklett adds, with emphasis. "All -weapons.-"
Kevarr asks, "Do you give books to children and teach them to swing them at each other?"
Maeva says, "I never said ye were violent. I said ye were unfit to watch the tyke."
Kevarr asks, "Are books made for the purpose of killing someone else?"
Darklett chuckles at this. "Absurd. The motive to kill is not in the weapon, it's in the beast."
Kail keeps sobbing. I_I
Kevarr says, "But a weapon is created solely to kill."
Kevarr says, "Books are not."
Shadowbow smiles, "Ah but you are violent."
Kevarr says, "You do not have pictures on the walls of great heroes swinging books at each other."
Simply, Elm leans against the wall near the door. He scratches his chin just watching and listening.
Maeva says, "Okay. That's nice. Gimme the tyke."
Nemesis catches Elminster's form by the door and nods in his direction. "Greetings again, Elminster, sir.."
Darklett says, "That mouse you got on your tapestry isn't an advocate for peace, apparently. Heck of an idol for the dibbuns, making beasts run away for fear of the sword, then you tell the little ones he was brave and heroic."
Shadowbow shakes his head, "Violent beasts are no safer than me and I have him."
Kevarr says, "Darklett. I know you aren't stupid. Please don't make me doubt that conclusion."
Nagia hrms. "And dibbuns without responsible adults..."
Darklett says, "You're forcing yourself to doubt it."
Ears twitching, the rabbit smiles. "Hello Nemesis." Elm looks at the others again. "..may I ask where the child /got/ a bow?"
Nagia says, "Okay. Let me tell you a story. About my daughter before I took 'er under my care."
Kevarr says, "You're giving me the most absurd argument I have ever, ever heard."
Kevarr says, "You're telling me it's a good idea to give a child a weapon to play with."
Kevarr says, "You're telling me that a weapon in a child's paws is not dangerous."
Maeva says, "Kev. Can I hurt him? He doesn't know how to follow simple instructions."
Darklett smiles. "You're telling me that something absolutely harmless is a weapon. Again, I refer to the inherent danger within books and random rocks and sticks. And you still haven't said anything about your "idol" on that tapestry."
Maeva asks, "If I can't, what do I do?"
Maeva says, "Wait, I've got it."
Nemesis twitches her whiskers at Elminster, "I believe the hare gave him the makeshift bow and the otter gave 'im the blunted arrows."
Kevarr says, "I could kill you with this bow in about three dozen different ways, Darklett. It's /not/ harmless."
Maeva says, "Shadow, we're just goin' to stand here 'til ye give me the tyke."
Darklett says, "And I could kill you with a rock in three dozen more. You have made no point."
"Thats insane." Elm points out bluntly, as his gaze goes back to Nemesis. "Neither should be around children."
Kevarr says, "You're ignoring my point. Do you give rocks to children and teach them how to hit people with rocks?"
Nagia lifts his head, looking at Darklett. "I take it yer parents never taught you the difference between a weapon and a rock, eh?"
Darklett shakes his head. "No, Kevarr. You tell them that beasts who have killed others are heroic. Then, you show them a sword, then they make the connection between sword and stick, then they begin to swing the stick, then they harm others."
Kail peeks around his tearstained tail at Maeva. "Norra tyke. Dowanna go wi'you."
Kevarr says, "But you don't /give them the sword and the stick/, Darklett."
Kevarr says, "You take them away because they are too damn young to use them."
Shadowbow steps towards Meava, "I think Elm. can handle him that way we can't fight over it."
Moruwil comes in from great hall, having listened to part of the conversation already... He becomes interested finally that some discussion of weapons is in order. He looks around, then down at his sword, and puts a paw in the air, hoping someone will approve his request and listen to his question. After a while he starts jumping.
Kevarr says, "It's not the weapon. It's giving the weapon to someone who can't possibly be responsible with it."
Darklett says, "I made sure that the bow was useless so he could have his outlet without finding something dangerous. Shadowbow gave him the arrows, talk to him about the missiles."
"What?" The rabbit turns and looks at Shadow. "Put the child down Shadow. Please."
Kevarr says, "I just demonstrated it was still dangerous."
Nemesis grumbles, "I don't believe yae should be using such language around the young'un's, miss marten.."
Kevarr says, "Squirrel, language doesn't kill beasts. "
Nagia steps to Darklett, lifting his paw to the hare's shoulder, to grab his attention. "Listen to me. The point is, you are NOT being a responsible beast, and taking proper care, or teaching proper moral value to this kid. Apparently, you think you are. As far as I can see, the self-important beast is the one who gave the bow to the baby. Now, we're gonna educate you and yer buddy, so that you know how to handle children. And that's how it's gonna be. If you ignore everything that's said t'ya, then the consequences just get more and more severe. Do you understand me, boy?"
Nemesis says, "It doesn't help them as they grow, either."
Kevarr says, "Right now, I'm concerned that they be around to be able to grow."
Maeva is still hanging onto the back of Shadow's tunic, because he never said she didn't manage it, "I'm going to watch the tyke for now. Or Kev or Nagia. Until his pa can be found. Too many stupid beasts around to be sure."
Darklett lets his gaze leave Kevarr as he turns to Nagia. "Then let the consequences grow, because I'm sick of these arrogant beasts keeping their narrow minds closed, so as to not let any logic in."
Kevarr says, "Okay. Darklett. At what age were you given a weapon?"
"Is there any reason for such insults? Such fighting and bickering? It solves -nothing- and just pushes everyone apart. I suggest giving the child to a caretaker to be taken care of /properly/ and kept away from weapons. And from beasts whom give them to them." Elm puts out his point.
Kevarr says, "Thank you, Elminster, I've been doing that."
Darklett says, "My first weapon was a sharp rock I found lying on the ground. I was four seasons, and I killed two in self defense."
Kevarr says, "You killed two beasts at four seasons."
"Are they listening?" Elm blinks.
Kevarr says, "With a sharp rock."
Kevarr asks, "And you're arguing that he should have a weapon still?"
Shadowbow spins on one paw quickly to get Meava off, and sets Kail next to the door, "Go play with the other dibbuns."
Nagia says, "There is no logic to yer reasoning. You're just a kid yerself. You're not grown. We are. You'll listen to what we say. That's how it works. If you think differently, you can give livin' on yer own a shot. I had a brother. Left home when he was younger n even you. Thinkin he was smart, an' tough. All that. Became a miserable drunkard an' got his sorry tail killed. 'Cause as much as he THOUGHT he knew about the world, he left it before he could discover he didn't know anything.""
Nemesis puts her book away and sidles toward Elminster, the only beast she knows by name, and leans against the wall.
Maeva promptly releases Shadow and moves to scoop up Kail.
Kevarr's whiskers twitch very slightly.
Darklett says, "No. A sharp rock is sharp. That stick is dull and has a loose string attached to it."
Nagia says, "So I STRONGLY advise you drop the attitude, and mind your place. I have never, EVER been eager about seeing a beast get hurt. But defiance is one good way to doin' just that."
Kevarr sighs. "You are not listening to a thing I'm saying. Would you care for me to demonstrate it on /you/ before you get the point of how dangerous it is?"
Shadowbow swings a paw out to hold Meava back.
Unfortunately, Oxeye is in the door. And being quite a large hare, the doorway is effectively blocked against fleeing dibbuns. Should they attempt to flee. The hare blinks at the large gathering, eyes narrowing as they pass over each occupant. Why. Redwallers, Long Patrollers, strangers, -and- that strange rabbit.
The rabbit stands near Nemesis. "Shadow, leave her be." Elm rubs his chin.
Darklett smirks at the marten. "Quite belligerent for being the peacekeeper. Go ahead, show Kail how to make the harmless stick dangerous."
Maeva moves to punch Shadow in the jaw.
Kail looks like he might head out the door, but is picked up by Maeva. In a tantrum at having his favourite (and only?) toy broken by her, he starts flailing his clawed paws wildly. "LEMMEGOLEMMEGOLEMMEGOLEMMEGO!!!"
Nagia lifts his paw to pinch Darklett's ear. "Ey. First lesson: Do not ignore beasts givin you a proper lecture."
Shadowbow holds his other paw up to stop her punch.
Kevarr's eyes narrow. "Now that's enough of this bickering. Nagia is right. This is how things are going to be, and they are that way in order to keep the children safe. If you don't like it, that's too bad, Darklett. You're in the Long Patrol. I assume you understand how to take orders." She only just manages to avoid rolling her eyes at his next remark. "I /just showed you/."
Kevarr glances sharply to the side. "Maeva. No."
Kevarr says, "Unless you want dish duty as well."
Nemesis growls, "Miss Otter, that is quite uncalled for in the abbey." "Fighting in the Abbey, a place of peace..." Elm frowns.
Moruwil slowly puts his hand down; it seems that the beasts involved are in heated discussion. He just minds his own business, for ONCE, and slides against the wall to the floor. The scabbard makes a loud thud and Moruwil shifts it for comfort.
"I'm waiting for the demonstration on me, Kevarr. Go ahead." Darklett raises his paws, showing he is disarming himself. "Hit me with the stick. Show all how the stick can be dangerous, and then tell me how you could not have done more harm with your fist."
Eh. Ox observes the chaos for a moment longer with intense interest, before choosing the one target that Ox should be able to get a response from. Darklett. "H'oi there, lad. A membah o'th'Patrol, indeed." Hmm. The buck watches Nagia take certain measures against the hare, before clearing his throat. "Ah say, can anyone 'ear meh? Can w'please put this chattah t'rest. Ah'd like t'speak." The lieutenant's arms raise, hoping to gain some level of attention, especially from Darklett.
Maeva mutters, "Sorry, Kev." She seems to have caught Kail by the arm with her other paw, but said arm is starting to get clawed. She flinches, "Matey, mind stoppin' that?"
Kevarr says, "Darklett. Shut up. Go upstairs to the dormitory and cool your heels. In an hour, I want you back down here to help with the supper dishes. Then I want you to go straight back up to the dormitory and stay there. I'll tell your officers where you are."
Kevarr says, "Any more mouthing off, and you'll be doing dishes for two more nights."
Darklett turns to Oxeye as he hears him speak... Insubordination to a Long Patrol officer is not his bag.
The rabbit's ears flatten as he watches and listens.
Nagia steps back, to allow Darklett a clear line of vision to Oxeye.
Kail would find it hard to hear Maeva amid his cries of "LEMMEGOLEMMEGO". :D
Kevarr says, "And you are not to carry weapons within this Abbey, either of you, Shadowbow, until you meet with me, Nagia, and Sunrose in order to learn how to be responsible."
Nagia glances to Kevarr. "Heh, I was about t'offer up deck swabbin' before y'spoke up. Or potato-peelin'." He sideglances to Darklett. "S'better n keelhaulin.
Shadowbow walks up to the officer, "Excuse me, I need to get by."
In a room page-pose, Kevarr grins. "Just ICly assume you did it, unless you make it back later tonight to RP it."
Kevarr says, "Shadowbow, I am talking to you as well. Please acknowledge me."
Maeva winces again as her arm continues to get clawed by the dibbun, "Gads. Kev?"
Nagia says, "Bring 'im t'me, Maeva."
Maeva immediately heads toward Nagia with dibbun in tow.
Oxeye clears his throat. "Darklett, Ah won't y'ovah 'ere - if'n y'don't mind, Kevvah," Ox says gruffly, eyes narrowed at the crowd. "Ah'll ask wha' happened latah, an' if'n ye 'ave been punished b'Kevvah, Ah expect ye t'do as she said." That done, Oxeye eyes the traveling Maeva and Kail. Squint. "... Tha' thin'. It's a Salamandastron resident, no? Little one's th'son o'Ayanna." Hrm.
Kail of course tries to pull away. All these giant bullies are worse than that vixen who caught him and SNow. At least the vixen was nice. :(
Darklett nods to Oxeye, and walks over to the lieutenant. Screw what Kevarr thinks about it. "Yes sah."
Kevarr glances toward Oxeye. "You're more than free to discipline him in the way you like. But I expect him to comply with what I've already told him. That means he's confined to the dormitories for the remainder of the night, so any physical punishment will have to wait until tomorrow."
Scratching his chin and looking around confused, Elm looks at Nemesis, his brow furrowed slightly. His ears stick up a bit, listening but he is quiet.
Nemesis catches Elminsters gaze, "I suppose the chaos is over.." She glances at the still wailing dibbun. "..for the most part."
Nagia reaches out to place a paw behind Kail's head, wrapping his fingers around the flesh on the scruff of his neck very lightly. His other arm goes around his waist, to hold him steadily there. "C'mere. Stop howlin' now... shh."
Maeva releases the dibbun as Nagia takes him.
Shadowbow sees that the officer hasn't responded, "I need to get by."
Kevarr crosses her arms and turns to face Elminster and Nemesis. "Now. You can voice your complaints and I'll actually be able to hear them this time. What can I do for you?"
Moruwil yawns; yet he's not tired. He makes a show of clapping without noise, to show that he's happy this confusion is over as well...
Oxeye nods shortly to Kevarr, having no plans to discipline the buck tonight, at any rate. That will take place after Ox has been filled in. His gaze turns to Nagia. But. As Kevarr moves to Elminster and Nemesis, Ox clears his throat. "... Eh. Kevvah, mind tellin' meh, in /brief/, why one o' m'privates an' a resident dibbun o'Salamandastron are in th'middle o' this chaos."
Nemesis steps forward and bows her head at Kevarr, "I overheard somebeasts talking about a harvest soon and was wondering if you needed any help gathering the fruit from the orchards.."
"Nothing." The rabbits ears stick up. "You handled it well is all.." The frown stays however.
Kail just keeps trying to pull away, though his wailing has reduced to sobs. His ears are pinned back and his tail thrashes, showing how distressed he is.
Kevarr says, "Darklett gave the little squirrel a bow. And Shadowbow gave him padded arrows. And apparently, they think it's absurd that someone would find that a bad idea." Her ears perk as Nemesis speaks. "Orchard harvest doesn't occur until the autumn. I'm afraid you're about two seasons off. But we could use help with gardening and pruning, among many other things."
Moruwil hurrumphs, muttering, "I'd give the little squeak my sword if it'd put a stopper to his mouth...." A VERY quiet mutter.
Maeva rubs her clawed arm ruefully, "That would have been much easier if the adults hadn't made such a fuss."
Darklett would -really- like to add something now, but stays silent, out of respect for his officer.
"May I speak to you later Kevarr once things have settled and quieted down?" Elm looks at the marten.
Shadowbow says, "Excuse me I need to get by I've had a long day, Including an attempt from one of the Long Patrol to get me to fight."
Nemesis nods and steps back.
Kevarr turns to Elminster. "Go ahead. Things are about as settles as they get."
"It can wait, seems your paws are quite full at the moment." The rabbit nods.
Kevarr says, "No, my paws were just freed up. And I can't guarantee they will be for long. Please. Feel free to tell me."
Nagia hmms, and releases his grip on the scruff of Kail's neckfur, assuming the age-old discipline trick worked to quiet him down. "Hush now... Methinks yer in for a decent nap.."
"Its alright Kevarr." Elm waves a paw. He smiles as Nagia tries to calm the child.
Kevarr's whiskers twitch. "...Elminster. You said you wanted to speak with me when I had time, and I have time now. Now please, just tell me what's on your mind."
Moruwil breaks the back-and-forth, "For goodness sake, haha, well, I'll tell you one thing. It's an absolute breath of fresh air that the ratio of decent beasts to vermin is as high as it is..." He waits for the marten to say something, secretly hoping that this would trigger her response.
Oxeye squints, nodding slowly. Well. "Th'Long Patrol does not condone weapons in th'paws o'dibbuns, no mattah how safe they may be. A weapon is a weapon. An' on tha' note, there's more harm caused b'exposure t'weapons than jus' th'physical aspects. Could teach th'dibbuns th'wrong message, aftah h'all." Ox gives a brief nod, glancing once more at Darklett. "Ah expect t'talk t'ye tomorrow, aftah ye've served y'piece o'Kevvah's verdict."
Kail promptly tries to retreat...though finds that Nagia still holds his arm. "Lemme go!" he sniffles miserably. Mean adults.
Kevarr's ears twitch. Moruwil is given a brow lift. "Did that remark take you that long to come up with? You really need to work on your delivery." She then looks back to the rabbit.
Darklett looks to Oxeye, nods smartly, and speaks. "Permission to start on said verdict, sah?"
"Just was curious if the scrolls we spoke of last night were found and wanted to know what exactly happened here, all the arguing could be heard in the Great Hall. But you handled the situation well.." The rabbit nods. "I'd like to go over the scrolls with you at some point if I may?"
Maeva glances toward Moruwil with a grin, then seats her still slightly damp self in a chair.
Oxeye doesn't bother to look over at Darklett again. He gives another sharp nod. "Dismissed, Darklett." Now, a less business-like matter distracts Ox, as Elminster speaks. He shoots the rabbit a sideways glance, eyes narrowed. Hrm.
Darklett salutes, and exits the library.
