Of Long Patrol Minions and Second Opinions

Darklett and Zeraph chat it up. Is Dark missing the patrol life?

When Darklett steps into the main street from the square, it's easy to tell he's heading towards the exit. And by his features and gait, which are stretched into a grim straight and held at a slow pace respectively, one could guess he's not about to go on a picnic.

One figure on the main street Darklett doesn't notice would be Zeraph, who was moving in from the entrance. He has to turn when he sees the older buck and goes hurrying after him. "Dark!" From his position he wouldn't note the other's look, but the pace and movement are easily readable. The Lieutenant pauses with a grim look himself, then hurries towards him again. "Dark."

Darklett stops mid-step, turning his head and doing an about face, then adjusting as he sees Zeraph. "Zer. Hey, good to see you!" He does a quick facial adjustment to show that he means what he just said, but he still looks very preoccupied. Also, as the lieutenant gets closer, he would probably notice how tired the buck looks, eyes seemingly stuck in a half-lidded state, and heavy bags under them.

Zeraph grunts a little. "Yeah. Good to see me. You look horrible though." The officer gives a soft sigh when he says this, paw moving behind him as if to grab something, but then pausing and reaching for Dark's arm first to drag him closer towards an alley.

Darklett's brow furrows. "Hey, that's not very nice..." Said brow goes back to its normal state as he's grabbed by the arm and being tugged, which... Well, he can do nothing about. "What, what're you doing?" He stumbles after the lieutenant, ears perked curiously.

Zeraph pauses with his back against the alley wall, kind of just jerking Darklett into the more darkened area with him. Which could appear to be rather funny-looking if someone witnessed it. However the Lieutenant just tugs a leather bound bundle from his back pocket, which was hidden by his tunic, and forces it quickly into the paw of Darklett's arm he's holding.

"Zeraph, what in the world are you doing?" Darklett doesn't really try and stop Zeraph, but it's not like he could if he wanted. "Why don't you just..." At this point, the bundle is shoved into his paw, and at first, he almost drops it, but adjusts quickly. "...You got 'em?" Immediately, the buck starts unwrapping the bundle.

Zeraph nods his head and sighs a little. "Yes. I got them." He releases Darklett's arm as he drops his paw to his side just watching his friend unwrap the bundle. "And I have patrols out also.. looking for Audri." The Lieutenant scowls a little at this.

Finally retrieving his knives, belt and all, from the bundle, Darklett holds the leather wrap in one and the belt in the other, looking over his long lost weapons. "...Taye did his job, then. Thank you... I have a feeling I might be needing these sometime soon."

Zeraph smirks a little again, nodding his head. "If there's anything else I can do Dark, please tell me. I'd want nothing else then to have her back as well." Suddenly the officer seems more grown up than he usually acts, which is either odd or just expected.

Darklett nods slowly, and slings the leather wrap over his shoulder, moving to fasten the belt around his waist, working the straps through their rings, leaning against the wall to hold the belt up as he fastens it. "I can't even begin to thank you enough. I'm... afraid, though, for Audri. I've been looking for so long." He stops what he's doing, and looks up to Zeraph. "Really, it's not the patrol's business to be looking for my daughter... So thank you."

Zeraph observes Darklett putting the belt back on, brows furrowed still as if he is thinking hard about something, but can't quite place it. Finally the officer looks up and nods his head with a smile. "You're welcome Darklett. You're my friend and so is Audri. It's my pleasure. And.. I'm sure you'll get her back. I'll even send someone with you on your search?" He glances off to the side, out into the main street, then back to his friend. "Just don't let anyone know I got you those." Gesture going to the knives.

Darklett dips his head down in a half nod, finishing the fastening of his belt, making sure it's snug around his waist, and giving a few bounces on his toes to make sure it isn't going to drop. "As far as these are concerned, I stole them myself." He shakes his head, reaching up a paw to scratch at the back of it. "I don't know if sending a patroller with me is a good idea. It might be considered a patrol that way, and... I don't wanna get in any more trouble for acting like an officer. I may be out, but I'd at least want a /little/ bit of good standing between me and the mountain."

Zeraph scowls a little at Darklett now, shaking his head. "Dark, going out on your own could be not such a great idea..." He'd go with him himself, but he can't, so the Lieutenant doesn't feel very good about the whole situation. He opens his mouth to argue, but then closes it and clears his throat, eyes closed. "Fine. Whatever. They're going out anyway.. you could always.." Erf.

"I'd like to come along, I really would. But..." Darklett scratches at his head again. "I don't know if it's such a good idea. Being on a patrol like that would just make me want to come back more." The dark-furred buck shakes his head, sighing at the /real/ reason he doesn't want on the patrol. "I'm trying to deal with being a civilian again, you know?"

Zeraph nods his head, ears twisting back when Darklett gives that real reason and then the buck goes to walk away. "Alright. Glad to help.. get your knives back and all. Nice talking with you, Sah." Pause. That was just out of habit. Erf. The Lieutenant goes to walk off faster.

Darklett watches the Lieutenant go for a second, biting at the inside of his lip. Then, with a big sigh, he chases after. "Hey, Zer!" Dark jogs after the other buck. "Wait up, wait up. I'll go with you... You're right."

Zeraph glances back. "With me?" He let's Darklett catch up with him, with a heh. "Yeah right. I'm stuck in the bloody mountain. Can't go anywhere at the moment. You'd be with runners." Grin. It's kind of forced, yet evil at the same time.

Darklett's ears fold as he catches up to the lieutenant, giving him a face. "...Runners? /Runners?/" He sticks his tongue out in mock disgust, shaking his head with his eyes squinted. "Can't give me at least /one/ fighter to go out with? Big, slow, lumbering fighters?"

Zeraph pokes Darklett in the chest, eyeing him. "Hey. Even /you're/ not big and slow. Besides, on a journey you're best to be fast and efficient. And archers can be very wonderful things." Chuckles somewhat. "Though.. maybe. If one is good enough."

Darklett chuckles, deflecting the paw to the side well after the poke to the chest. "I know, I know. But runners? They'll be wanting to run up and down the beach, and... I'm not slow, but I won't be able to keep up." He waves his paw and snickers. "No, runners'll be fine..." He heads towards the exit of Halyard again. "...It's good to see you're taking charge."

Zeraph begins after Darklett with a grin. "Well, I've really no choice with Jarril gone. Wish I could be lazy again.. But you don't get everything." The Lieutenant has regained his good mood. "I'll just tell the runners to go slow for you.. as you're not as young as you used to be obviously."

From behind him, Zeraph can see Darklett's ears fold, and his shoulders rise up. The buck turns around with a devious squint, narrowing his eyes with a pointed finger at the lieutenant. "Oho... Don't start with me. Oh, no..." He grins, putting his dukes up and then giving the lieutenant a playful shot at the shoulder. "Call me old again, see what happens..." He chuckles, winking at the lieutenant before turning and heading towards the exit again.

Zeraph steps back as he is clipped playfully in the shoulder, one paw curling into a fist, but the officer doesn't hit back. He is laughing too much anyway. "Terribly sorry. Hahaha." And towards the exit the head once more, with no more darkened thoughts it would seem.
