Of Vicarious Revenge and Possible Loose Ends?

Rahier and an Injured, Fidgety Darklett have a chat.

By this time, Darklett's recovered a good amount from the blood loss, after many a bandage change over the long night hours and during the day. The healers have still requested that he stay horizontal, though, until healing has progressed further, and the dark-furred buck has complied. This, however, does not stop those uninjured, and thus restless, legs from itching at him. So, he's sorta laying out on the stretcher they brought him in on, awake and fidgety.

Rahier watches from his wooden chair as two healers move another stretcher on out, taking another hare up to the somewhat cleaner infirmary. The major draws one leg up onto his lap, and takes a look over at Dark, who is.. fidgeting. XD "Antsy t'leave?"

Ears flick, perk, droop, and fold, all at the same time as he hears Rahier address him. Rolling his head to the side, he regards the Major from the sideways perspective he has with a smirk. "Very. Wish they'da broken my footpaw or something, at least I'd have a reason to just be layin' here... How'd you fare, anyway?" He can't tell from his vantage point. "Obviously better than me, but...?"

Rahier hooks his paw underneath the lip of his seat and scoots it over to the head of Dark's cot, taking the time to recross his leg and lean back. "Mm. I'm fine, Dark." More or less. "Your arrival was mos'.. timely."

Quinten walks into the training room peering at something on his clipboard, weaving about the room and making a few notes with his quill pen. He stops by a large private, a runner in fact and speaks to them softly and hands them a rolled and sealed piece of parchment. The runner nods and heads out of the room.

"Good. I was thinkin' about all the things they coulda done while they were here..." Darklett's head rolls back to look more towards the ceiling, though he still speaks. "I got us here as soon as I could. Barely rested, used little food... Nothin' I could do to get here quicker." He says it as if he needs to assure Rahier, or anyone, of this.

"An' I'm sure we were party t'all o'em, an' more." The major laces his fingers upon his lap and watches idly as another of the wounded is transported out, to one of the two infirmaries. It is now he tilts his head and takes in Dark's condition. "Which one worked y'over?"

Quinten side steps the beasts transporting wounded and moves towards Rahier, without looking up he's checking things on his list and changing pages to check something else.

Sigh... Darklett turned his head to the side to angle it more at Rah. "Some crazy marten. I said that to Zeraph earlier and he seemed to know exactly who I was talking about." A brow is raised to the major, as if expecting the same result from him, too.

Rahier chuckles. Well, it's mostly just the action and appearance of the chuckle, without any real sound. "Some crazy marten, eh?" The major shakes his head. "..Didja kill him?"

Quinten moves up next to Rahier and salutes and then holds out a piece of paper to him, "Inventory sah of the main Infirmary."

"Mmhmm. He should be dead... He was crawling away, but there's no way he'd get any sort of distance alive." Darklett shakes his head to either side, looking up to Rahier again. "Zer said he did... Some bad things. To you, Zoe, everybeast."

Rahier mmms. "Someone should go'n make sure he's dead," he says, staring up at Quint, and the offered list. He raises a paw to take it without returning the salute, and scans it disinterestedly. "..Bout what I already knew, I spent some time in there.. durin." The major gives Quint a dismissive wave and stuffs the paper into a pocket. "Yes, Dark, 'e did."

Quinten looks startled and just nods backing off, "Was just...told to deliver it sah..." He salutes again before sending a look towards Darklett. He then turns to march off back out of the room to see to some other chore or job that needs doing.

"...He's /got/ to be dead. Just about cut his gut open to get him to let go of me." Darklett's paw goes to his neck as he says this. "He couldn't walk out of the mountain, he had to crawl... It's a pretty far crawl to get to anybeast that'd fix him up." A glance is given to Quinten in return, before he gives a sigh, looking back to the major.

Rahier shrugs. "Alrigh'." It's just.. you know how those things go. People never die when you expect them to. "Then he can't have gone far..." Rahier scratches at his chin, looking thoughtful. Ah well. He shakes his head once more and looks to Dark. "Hope y'get better soon."

"Thanks... I do, too. Plan on going out and finding the rest of 'em as soon as I can." Darklett says this with a sort of matter-of-factness, like it's already been decided that that's what he'll be doing. "Just... need to stop hurting so much." He lets out a short heh of a laugh to the healer Major.

"Yes, yes indeed." The major crosses his arms, still slightly leaned-back in his chair. "Those who fled will have t'be made t'pay, yes. An' we'll have t'make sure nothin' like this comes about.. ever again." Another chin-scratch, before the heh brings him around, and he gives a short chuckle in return. "Yeh, well, that comes in time."

"Yeah... Don't know how much longer I think I can stand letting those vermin march on down the beach without anybeast chasing 'em, though." Darklett sighs, the frustration only fleeting as he smiles upwards. "Glad I could help get the mountain back, though..." Then a thought crosses him. "...Colonel Zoe." He looks to Rahier with a small bit of worry. "Is she gonna be alright?"

Rahier doesn't look frustrated at the thought, or even really concerned. It's someone else's problem now. He looks down to Dark again at the question, and then up, and grunts. "I think she's fine. I don't think y'can very well understan' jus' what happened while y'were gone."

Darklett frowns, looking back to the ceiling, with hesitation before he responds. "You're right... Didn't think I'd be able to, anyway. I was really scared of what I'd find when we came back. You coulda been dead. Zoe, too. Zeraph. All of you could've just been killed, for all I knew." He's been contemplative during his waking hours, apparently. "Probably the first time I've really ever been scared for anybeast else. Even when Audri went missing, I had a gut feeling she was alive."

"Such disregard f'life..." Rahier sighs. "S'many jus'... died, I didn't really care anymore. I'd fix 'em and they'd be killed anyway." He slumps, muttering on. "Their kind don't deserve t'live." Of course, he reaches out to pat Dark's head. "Thanks f'comin'.'

"Yeah..." Darklett's pretty much quieted by the Major's words, somber expression reigning on his features. "I... Of course I came. What was I gonna do, just leave you here?" He starts to struggle to get up, but this only ends in a half-sit, a groan of pain, a clenching of his face, and a rest back down on the cot.

Rahier doesn't try to restrain Darklett, rather, he just watches as the other hare only makes it about halfway up before falling back to the cot. "Y'migh' all have been killed as well." He shrugs. "I didn't mean t'offend you."

"...We might've." Darklett bites down on his lip to quell the pain he just caused himself, breathing deeply a few times before he can continue. "I may have been a little selfish in taking the mountain back when it would've been safer to keep the recruits away, and try to get more troops from Mossflower... But I couldn't bear the thought of you being killed because I didn't act quick enough." He shakes his head, lips curling in a frown of both thought and emotion. "Looks like I made the right choice, right? Recruits... they fought really well, Rah. Your Taye, too, was very brave."

Rahier would quip about that being why Dark has to lay down but, you know. He grins. XD "Why Dark, 'm touched." The major crosses his arms and hmms. "Taye? Well, yeh, he did, I s'pose. Him'n his... friend." Yees. "I saw him, what's 'is face.. Seven."

"Yeah..." Dark smiles up at Rah. "He has yet to let me down. Him and Seven led the way up to the second floor... It's them you can thank for the mountain being safe again, mostly." Of /course/ Darklett isn't going to take the credit for himself. "It's all... seeming very much like a dream. I admit, I wasn't seeing this going well at all before we made the attack, so when things went like they did..." The sentence has more of an understood ending than a spoken one.

Rahier waves a paw. "Yeh, they did well, an' all, but they were followin' y'orders." He grins and turns all the way towards Dark, looking down upon the horizontal hare. "Y'did well, Dark, don' play it down. We're all very grateful." And then, he winces. "Oy, but m'leg isn't. I've been sittin' t'long." And so, he rises. "No more sittin' up, 'kay?"

Darklett looks up at Rahier, really... really trying to be humble, but a poorly repressed grin shines forth. "It was a /damn/ good plan. I thought of it, and I knew it'd work right away." He chuckles, regardless of the pain it causes, at the healer officer, lips pursing, though curling upwards at the edges. "Alright. I'll keep it safe. Cooperation'll get me up and going quicker, and all that... Thanks for your help." Heh, he looks back to the ceiling, more just to look away. "You really... Kept it together in the face of things last night. I admire you, Rah."

Rahier laughs. ;p "Yeh, yeh, 'm sure y'did. Thas' th'Dark I know." With a grin, he looks down upon Dark and shakes his head. "Well, I gotta be good f'somethin' sometimes." The major begins to limp his way past the cot, giving a wave to the immobile hare. "G'nigh', Dark." And out he goes.

"Night, Rah." Darklett's paw raises at the forearm, making sure he uses zero injured muscles in the action. Ahh. Unbelievable couple days it's been.
