Salamandastron: Training Room
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
This is the training room for the hares of the long patrol. The walls
seem to have taken a severe beating, more than likely not from stray
arrows missing the archery targets. There are several of said archery
targets lining the west wall, each with small oak stands a good distance
off to hold arrows, hang a bracer, and rest a bow on. The targets are of
simple design: a large, tightly wrapped bale of hay with a coarse paper
target on the front. A wooden mannequin, in no better shape than the
walls, is in the northeastern corner of the room. Besides that, several
wooden practice swords sit in a small pile. On the eastern side of the
room is a small, makeshift wrestling arena consisting of two mattresses
tied together. Then on the southern side of the room is a fitness area,
assembled from several pull-up bars, and a nice padded area to do push up.
Narrow, cylindrical weights (both wooden and metal) are pushed up against
the wall, along with a few straight metal bars for them to be mounted on.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Terrance has a pike in his paws, the tip covered by cloth to keep from any accidents happening, or at least less. He listens intently to the instructor as he talks about the use of pole weapons to the group of fighters.
Taye has just been wandering the mountain, and enjoying every bit of it. He may have spent his first two seasons in Halyard, but Sala is his home. Well, there's that and he's hoping to run across Miyrr. XD He stops just inside the door of the training room, looking in. His head is bandaged up, with just his two ears sticking out of the mess of wrappings. He grins, leaning back against the wall as he watches.
Terrance glances around a bit, slightly bored by the instructor’s voice. Spotting Taye, he gives a smile and a small wave. "Terrance!" the instructor calls out which makes Terr jump a little and he quickly looks back. Hrm. A few of the older recruits snicker a bit and elbow each other, whispering. Terr gives them a quick suspicious glance but looks back to the instructor as he tells them to pair off.
Grinning at the wave, Taye returns it, though he cuts it short when the instructor looks his way. Hmmmmmm... He frowns thoughtfully, then, with a purposeful step, begins moving towards the class. He stays in the instructor's sight and stops when he's a few steps away from the group. He salutes, waiting for the instructor to acknowledge him.
As the recruits pair up and find some floor space, the instructor scans around, making sure no one is going to get any bright ideas with those pike tips. Looking towards Taye he returns the salute, "Somethin' I can help you with? Or you just disrupting my class for tha fun o' it?" the instructor asks. In the mean while, Terrance gets a number of slugs on the arm from the earlier mentioned recruits. Frowning and rubbing the arm a bit, he looks around for a partner but can't seem to find anyone that doesn't have a partner yet.
Taye drops the salute once it is returned, nodding with the slightest of grins. "Yes, sah. I was wonderin' if I could join yer class fer the day?" The slugs to Terrance's arms are noted over the instructor's shoulder.
The instructor hms as he looks around, "Well looks like Terrance there needs a partner so permission granted" he answers, looking back to Taye. "Grab a pike from the corner there and you can help him practice some basic moves."
Taye salutes again and jogs over to retrieve a pike. He returns, stopping in front of Terrance and grinning. "'Ey."
Terrance perks an ear as he hears his name and looks towards Taye as he grabs a pike and smiles. The instructor returns the salute and then goes off to correct a pair that is just flailing the pikes around. "Hey there Taye. Missin' being a recruit or somethin'?"
Taye grins a little and holds his pike, his paws spaced out on the shaft. The covered tip is pointed towards Terrance. "Bettah than that whole battlin' thing. Trust me." He rolls his eyes upwards, to indicate his bandaged head. He then sends a glance towards a couple of the recruits who were punching Terr. They're currently in the process of poking at one of the does with the wood end of their pike. He jerks his head towards them, "Who're they?"
Terrance lowers the tip of his pike as Taye does. Glancing to the hares in question, he frowns, "Oh just some bloody bullies. They like to pick on the younger beasts since they're bigger an' older than tha rest o' us. Usually though they just target me as o' late." He says, rotating the bruised arm a bit. He waits for Taye to look back towards him before taking a step forward and thrusting the pike at the other hare's torso.
Bringing his pike up into Terrance's, he deflects the blow. He keeps glancing to the side at the two bullies, however. "Why doncha do somethin' about it?"
Terrance quirks a brow at Taye's suggestion. "Come on chap. Do you see tha size difference? If I tried ta stand up ta 'em, they'd just clobber me, an' I wouldn't have much of a chance at defendin' myself."
Taye thrusts his pike at Terrance's shoulder, just so that the instructor doesn't wonder at their lack of action. "We could always... get back at 'em t'gethah," he suggests, with an upward lilt at the end which makes it a question.
Terrance parries Taye's pike aside, arching a brow. "Ya got somethin' in mind?" He asks, a smirk forming on his face as he sweeps his pike down low in an attempt to knock taye's feet out from under him.
Taye jumps to avoid the pike, swinging the blunt edge of his own at Terrance's shoulder - not the one that was slugged, of course. "I might."
Terrance raises his shoulder to make sure that the pike doesn't glance into his face and takes the hit, thankful that it wasn't the arm with the very large and nasty bruise on it. Getting back into position, the younger recruit smirks a bit, "Nice hit."
Taye makes a face at Terrance, but then he grins. Yes, he's an "adult" now. Right. He waits for Terrance's next move, looking once more over towards the two bullies. "What're their names?"
Terrance grins back and hms. He's pretty much gone through the moves that the instructor has talked about. "Biggest one is Tom. Tha othah one is named Flatpaw" he answers, punctuating it with feighting a thrust to the left side of him and then actually thrusting at the right side, not very hard mind you, just in the odd chance that the thrusts actually work.
Taye looks back in time to see Terrance's move. He falls for the leftward move, and then when it comes back to the right, he does his best to twist his side away from the thrust. All the same, the pikes protected tip grazes off the padded material of his tunic. He grins in surprise and looks across at Terrance. "Good move, Terr." His eyes suddenly glint with mischief, and he repositions his paws on his pike, for a more offensive stance. Then, he thrusts once, twice, three times, towards his right, left, right shoulder, though lightly. Apparently he's more interested in polearms than Tom and Flatpaw, now.
Hm, so this is what happens when he lands a hit against an officer. Terrance tries to parry the thrusts but isn't very successful at redirecting them. He manages to dodge the first thrust, only get glanced by the second, and rolls back his shoulder just in time so that only the pole makes contact with it. "Sheesh Taye, don't like getting hit by a recruit?"
The way Taye's eyebrows go up, it's obvious he's fairly impressed by the general dodging... ness. He /starts/ to grin, but at the question,, his perked ears dip back slightly. He holds his pike back, stopping. ".. No. I." He shrugs lightly. "Jus' wanted t' play around." He glances at Tom and Flatpaw again, who are thankfully not looking towards the two. "I mean... ya did good. I nevah coulda blocked any o' that at yer age." Hell, he probably couldn't now. As evidenced by his stylin' bandages.
Terrance grins and nocks his pike against Taye's, noticing the ears dipping back, "Just playin' with ya chap. An' thanks. Ya had me fairly scared there though, thought I was in for a good poking." He says, giving a disarming shrug. "So pretty much, there really isn't all that much ya can do with this thing huh? Just poke tha sharp point into tha other beast."
Taye grins and leans in to whisper. "Well... really the whole point o' this class is just t' learn how t' /dodge/ 'em. In a battle yer likely only t' use it once if yer a pikesbeast, 'n' yer prob'ly gonna wanna stick it in the othah beast's shield. Y'know, so they can't use it anymore." The buck shrugs, then lifts his pike again. "Wanna keep goin'?"
Terrance chuckles a bit and nods, "Aye, I guess that sounds about right." At the last question, he looks around and notices a good portion of the class is already leaning their pikes back in the corner. "No, looks like class is ovah, and I don't really care fo' these pikes anyhow." he says, straitening up and lifting the pike up, already starting for the corner.
Nodding, Taye starts after Terrance, though his eyes aren't on him, but the other two of interest. He sets his pike with the rest when they reach it, and looks to the side at Terr. "So. How've things been in the mountain?"
Terrance sets his pike in place and starts to move off to make room for the rest. "Well aside from those two blighters, things have been pretty good. Got ta stand watch for a shift at Halyard yesterday. Helped clean up a bit. But Major Jarril sent me back here after my shift sayin' he didn't really need me." He answers, frowning a bit a the last part.
Taye moves aside as Terrance does, eyeing the two again. They're both familiar from his own classes. But, yes, he is listening to what Terr has to say. "Well... y'know. There's not much t' do in Halyard, now." He shrugs uncertainly, noting the frown. "All the vermin turned tail 'n' ran. It was kinda funny..." He grins.
Terrance smirks a bit, "Aye, I can imagine that. Although looked like it still cost quite a bit of lives on both sides." He remembers all of the corpses and injured he saw, "Got to admit, didn't quite look like battle was as glorious as it is made up ta be.
Taye's grin fades somewhat, and he nods. "... Yer right. There's nothin' glorious about it. Yer jus' glad when it's ovah."
Terrance nods and glances about, feeling like a change in subject is in order. "So you want ta get out o' here?"
Taye nods again, looking somewhat relieved at the change in subject. "... Yeah, sounds good." He turns to head for the door, though he glances back. "... Ya seen Miyrr around, Terr?"
Terrance walks along side Taye as he heads off and shakes his ehad at the question, "No, haven't seen her for a couple o' weeks come ta think o' it. Why ya ask?"
Taye ducks his head, rubbing embarrassedly at the back of his neck. "... Dunno. Haven't seen 'er since I got back. Was just wonderin'."
Terrance rolls his eyes as he remembers, "Oh yeah, that's right. You two are 'sweet' on each othah."
Taye's ears flush a dark shade and he hehs, softly. "Aww... I was just wonderin', Terr." Because, of course, he can't admit to being sweet on her.
Terrance shakes his head, "Yeah yeah yeah, whatevah. I've seen all the mushy looks ya two have been givin' each othah."
Taye's grins awkwardly and glances to the side at Terr. He rubs nervously at his neck again and looks back down. "I... kissed 'er." Pause, grin. "She didn't hit me." Which means the kiss was a good thing. Yes.
Terrance glances towards Taye and just smirks. He then gives a blech and shudders a little. Come on, he's only 5 seasons old still. "I really didn't want ta know that much chap."
Taye's grin loses all awkwardness at the blech, and he reaches out with a paw, to push it against the side of Terr's head and thus shove it to the side. Playfully, of course. "Git."
Terrance pushes back a little, chuckling a bit. "So where we going ta anyhow?"
Taye snickers as he is shoved back, but at the question he shrugs. "I dunno... Could go get drunk off our arses." Grin. He's joking, of course, and he slings an arm around the younger buck's shoulder. "Eh. What ya in the mood t' do?"
Terrance laughs a little at that. "Doesn't sound too bad ta me." Getting a little more serious the younger buck shrugs, "Food is always a good thing ta have."
Ahhh, food. Taye's eyes brighten at the prospect, and he quickens his pace for the door, scruffing the other buck's headfur as he dodges forward, jogging for the door. "Last 'un there's got to take the trays back!"
Terrance heys! "No fair, you're a runner, o' course yer gonna win!" He calls after, but that doesn't stop him from trying.
