What tha heck!
Marleigh walks out from the shadows, cloaked and holding Kaltain in her arms. Ha ve to find Dark. Can't wait for this stupid patrol to be over. Kaltain was aslee p in her arms, she glanced down at her, not watching where she was going...
Darklett is sitting on the beach, camped out with the rest of the patrol, huddl ed close to the fire to ward off the cold. He's got some of his supper leftover, a bowl of some generic stew clasped in his paws, sipped at occasionally.
Northpaw sits on his bed, shing his swords.. He looks at Marleigh, and smiles at her. He looks back down to his swords, and shines them some more. Ow! He cuts t hrough the cloth and though the skin of his finger. It goes automaticly to his m outh, sucking on it. He mumbles down around the finger, "Damn!".
Marleigh nearly runs into Dark. "Geez!" She jumps back and Kaltain wakes up and starts fussing. "Shh...It's alright little one." She looks at Dark, and smiles a t him. "Hello Darklett."
Darklett didn't notice Marleigh there until she shouted. He jumps, a little, and jerks his head that way, his eyes widened slightly. "...Marleigh." He gives her a nod in greeting, noting her... deflatedness. And the baby. "Congratulations."
Northpaw takes the finger out of his mouth, and waves it around. He swears again , and sheaths his swords, throwing them aside. He gets up and walks over to Dark lett and Marleigh, "Hello Dark, Marleigh.".
Marleigh smiles again. "Thank you. But um..." She looks towards Northpaw, then b ack at Darklett. "Can I talk to you alone...for a minute?" She looks completely nervous and jitter...Don't know if Darklett has ever seen her like this.
Darklett's ears fold back at Marleigh's apparent state. Not screaming at him. Or mad at him, for that matter. Hmm. "...Sure. North?" He turns his head to the ot her buck. "Uhh, I'll be back." He stands and starts walking away from the groupi ng of hares.
Marleigh follows him, wrapping Kaltain up more, trying to keep her warm. "I look ed for you in Halyard. But the time I got there the patrol had already left.." S he looks up at him.
"Yeah... so what is it?" Darklett shoves his paws in his pockets and eyes Marleigh. "The kit's probably not too safe out her e in the cold..."
Marleigh starts to look nervous again. "Oh. ..I couldn't wait for the patrol to get back. I needed to tell you as soon as I could.." She looks up into his eyes.
Northpaw nods. He walks over to the fire pit, and gets some stew. Ohhh, his favo rite! Potato and leek, yum! He ladles some out into a bowl, and drinks some from the bowl.
Darklett tilts his head. "Yeah, so what is it?" He looks back at Marleigh, going slightly fearful at the odd behavior of the doe. "Are you in danger, or what?"
Marleigh smiles and looks down. "Only in danger of what your reaction is going t o be." She looks back up at him. "Darklett...I..."
Darklett's fists clench a little in impatience. "...What ? You -what?-"
Marleigh looks him square in the eye. "I love you..."
Northpaw goes and sits down on his bed. He sips on his soup, and chokes, hear th at phrase. He is within hearing range. The stew goes all over. "What th' hell!?! ?".
Darklett just... stares at Marleigh. Silent, he looks off past at Northpaw... He heard? Great... "Uh..." He looks at the kit, then at Marleigh's face. Then at N orthpaw. "...I..." Down to Kaltain. Then, at the fire, then at Northpaw, then of f to the side. "...That's..." His mind races as he tries to figure out what to s ay. Kaltain, fire, ocean, Northpaw, Marleigh... his eyes travel around quickly t o each one.
Marleigh eyes tear up. She mearly nods. "I get the point." She wraps Kaltain up again and puts her hood up. She starts to turn to leave...
Darklett stares at Marleigh, longer, as she turns away. And then looks over at Northpaw. He looks back to Marleigh, and... lets h er go. "...Don't cry. I just can't, okay? Can't." And, he shuts up.
Northpaw throws the stew aside. Wait a minute, Darklett? Marleigh? What the hell ? The kit, the...what the hell. What the bloody hell. He gets up, and look at th e two hares.
Marleigh starts to walk away, holding the tiny leveret close to her. "Sorry to h ave bothered you..." She head off for the shadowy exit in which she entered.
"...Get to Halyard and stay there," Darklett offers, as she walks away. "The kit shouldn't be out in the cold like this."
"What do you care?" Is all Mar says as she disappears into the darkness.
Northpaw walks to Darklett. "What the hell! What was that...". He looks hard at Darklett, "I suppose you had to say something like that, wot.".
Darklett finally breaks out of his stare to turn to Northpaw. "What's that suppo sed to mean?" He brushes past him and goes back to his spot by the fire.
Northpaw walks next to Darklett. "I heard about Charisma. The doe that got your leg with the arrow. They say she did it because she loved you, but you didn't." . He gets some more stew, and sits down next to Darklett.
Darklett nods, actually ironically smirking a little, as if recalling a fond mem ory. "Her name was Charsina, actually, and she was a nutcase. Marleigh? She's Ch arsina's sister. Not crazy." He shrugs, sipping at the broth of his stew. "Ahhuh , that's what she said. She loved me, so she shot me. Mmhmm." He lets the irony sink in for itself.
Northpaw puts his arm around Darklett, "Your still young, you have plenty of tim e to love, and marry. Things can happen.".
Darklett bends one ear and closes the eye on that same side as Northpaw puts an arm around him. "I wouldn't be too surprised, nor would I be disappointed if thi ngs -didn't- happen." He says this without any sort of telltale emphasis, sippin g at the broth again.
Northpaw smiles at Darklett, he retreats the arm and punches his in the arm, "Ah h, go on, Dark, old chap. I have to go, its my guard. Try to think about somethi ng else.". FutSplash! He threw alway his bowl. He goes and gets his sword, and runs off, strapping them on.
Darklett winces a little at the punch, and raises his brow at Northpaw as he sta nds. "Alright... Take care, North." He sips at his broth and stares at the fire some more. Yawn.
