Lansing

Description

Lansing is a fairly young male ferret, of only seven seasons of age. He is thin and tall in stature (both for his age and his kind). His fur color is a fuzzy brown, which gets darker around his paws, tail and headfur. At the middle front of his headfur, above the temple, the headfur color there is an unnatural, bright orange, mimicking the color and shape of a flame. Unlike many ferrets, he has no "mask" around his eyes; the fur there remains the same brown. The fur on his muzzle, down his throat and on his belly is beige in color. He has little pink ears, a pink nose and brown eyes that actually look pretty innocent for one who many would label as "vermin".

When he is not sporting his green Order Novice habit, Lansing can be seen wearing a dusty brown shirt and pants. Strange marks can be seen adorning his arms and lower legs when his limbs are visible. He also wears a crude, almost makeshift leather cuirass and leggings to cover his upper body and thighs, respectively. Small ornaments are woven into the leather such as feathers and small strings of beads, giving him somewhat of a "tribal" look. With this garb he is often also seen carrying his weapon, an old-looking but otherwise fine long sword. Its blade is of a fine steel, free of canker or rust, the crossguard plated with steel to ensure its durability in combat. The hilt itself is a combination of leather, bone and heavier wood with a leather string of feathers and some beads looped through a hole in the pommel, giving the sword an overall look matching that of Lansing's tribal garb while still maintaining the weight, balance and feel typical of a long sword. Regardless of which set of clothing the ferret wears, a small wood trinket carved to the shape of a paw with unusually long claws, always hangs around his neck.

History

Until more recently, relatively little was known about Lansing's origin. The ferret was abandoned as a babe and discovered alone by the mouse Josiah not long after. Having compassion for the babe, Josiah took him to care for him as his own child. When Josiah found him, Lansing wore only the same small wood trinket he wears today. Josiah didn't learn until much later that this trinket is the mark or symbol of the Juskamaat clan. As Lansing neared the end of Dibbunhood, the Abbey was visited by a ferret seer named Raka'waeb, who recognized Lansing's trinket and identified him as what his original clan called the "Maa'seshmew". Eager to learn of his past and to embark on some adventure, Lansing left the Abbey (with Josiah's consent, which the mouse gave reluctantly) with the seer and spent the next several months learning the ancient ways of the Juskamaat. Through several tests and trials during that time, he proved himself to be the "Maa'seshmew" that Raka'waeb claimed him to be. However, the strong ties that Lansing had with the Abbey and Josiah caused him to yearn to still return to the Abbey to stay, a choice the seer secretly was opposed to.

Raka'waeb had promised Josiah that they would return when his "training" was complete, but the night that they returned, the seer drugged Lansing to the point of being almost completely unconscious, leaving him unable to interfere in the seer's secret attempt on Josiah's life. The seer's plan almost succeeded, but at the last moment Lansing miraculously came to Josiah's aid and saved the Brother's life, and slaying Raka'waeb in the process. It was there after that Lansing, before losing consciousness again, told his adopted father that he wanted to join the Abbey Order. He is now a part of that organization, learning the ways of healing under Josiah's tutelage.

Lansing has had his fair share of trial and hardship even in his early life, but has otherwise led an innocent and happy Dibbunhood. Now, as he grows and matures toward adulthood with more than a normal share of wisdom for his age, he is trying to find himself, his place in life as he strives to keep strong ties to both the Abbey and the traditions of his Juska heritage.
