Log: Dandelion misses class
Howard, with his legs now in front of him, rolls up onto his heels and dives for Quinten aiming to pin him. Although he hates to admit it the younger hare is doing a pretty good job at smacking Howard about.
Quinten is pinned by Howard as he crashes into his legs, he tries to kick the older hare off him, paws pummeling at his shoulders
Howard takes multiple hard hits across his shoulders, his own weight making sure the kicks did nothing but jostle him. He rolls to escape the onslaught, trying to come up as he does so. He staggers with the momentum and falls against the ropes, breathing hard and sweating. He straightens up, and readies himself. Tired and hurting but still with it.
Quinten lets the hare go as he rolls away, he grabs the ropes and slowly starts to pull himself up, panting nad wiping sweat from his eyes, his fur a deeper shade of brown now where it is soaking him, he smiles lopsididly and waits for Howard to come at him
Howard also awaits an assault. When none comes he takes the oppurtunity to breathe. Giving up?
he asks, almost jokingly. Almost but not quite, he's still Howard of course.
Dandelion comes running in, slightly late, and out of breath, looking around to see if anyone's noticed his abscence.
Quinten shakes his head Not on your life Howard....
he moves slowly forwards, crouching low and breathing more under control now.
Bailey limps in a moment or two after Dandelion, in search of something to occupy her mind. Her head is wrapped in bandages and her left arm is in a splint. Her legs are fine, other than a few bruises here and there. She isn't fevered any more, either. Smiling, she hurriedly limps to the side of the ring, calling out, You can take 'im, doncha know. You've the advantage of being younger, yore muscles an' suchlike are springy.. Go fer it!
Howard grins sinisterly Oh good.
. He hops forward aiming a crude, swinging kick at Quinten, as if he's going for a long shot with a ball.
Quinten sees the kick coming and hops up, aiming to let it sweep underhis paws
Dandelion walks up to the ringside, still panting from the run. He supports himself on one of the posts, catching his breath and looking at the fight.
Howard the kick does indeed miss. Having half expected it Howard drops down onto the now more forward paw, flinging himself forward, going for Quintin with an elbow.
Quinten wheezes as that elbow catches him right in the stomach, the younger hare doubles up as the air rushes out of his lungs, folding forwards and being born backwards by Howard's lunge.
Howard comes to a halt letting his arm drop. Satisfied with his work thus far he begins to think about how to end it.
Quinten wriggles feebly, trying to get back up, not wanting to surrender to the hare whilst he can still move
Bailey winces and bites her lip, pounding on the ring floor with a first, yelling encouragement to Quinten. C'mon, git up, that wasn't nearly as hard as me Dad cuffed my ears! Seeing that it probably won't do much good, she satisfies herself with simply watching.
Dandelion grimaces at the hit, and inadvertedly feels at his nose with a paw. It's not sore any longer, but he can vividly remember the feeling of elbow against it.
Howard is tempted to put the boot in now. He'd have done it not so long ago, but with the appearance of an audience he has to reign it in somewhat. He glances down at Dandelion and then over at Bailey, before returning his gaze to Quinten. He stays where he is, resorting to fairer play than he might like.
Quinten staggers back to his feet, breathing raggedly as he tries to fill his lungs, one more like that and he'll be down.... crouching he circles to the left and feints, once, twice with his paws not wanting to get in too close..
Chewing his lip, Dandelion looks on. On the one hand he's anxious to get it over with, but on the other hand he's had a hard time coping with hand to hand fighting after the nose incident...
Howard jumps back at the second feint, expecting an actual strike. In retaliation he comes forward, striking out with a single jab from the right.
Quinten ducks and jabs up, or begins to, he misjudged howards jab and it catches him in the side of the head, he staggers left and careens off the ropes and staggers back, trying to stop himself as he moves back into range of Howards paws
Howard sidesteps and moves round the stumbling hare. He aims a precise stomp at one of Quinten's heals, hoping to floor him once more.
Quinten yells and is floored, landing with a thump and just lying there panting heavily, he tries to get up but his paws go out from under him dumping him back down, soaked and dripping sweat and looks up at Howard with one eye and grimaces
Bailey ducks out of instinct, frowning. Right then.. Howard, I suppose yeh win.
She looks at the older hare and pulls herself into the ring with her good arm, limping towards Quinten and kneeling beside him with a grin and a wince. You okay, lad?
Howard leans down over Quinten and speaks as Bailey arrives Oh he'll be fine. He's just lucky he's who he is and where he is. Other wise it'd be a fair sight worse.
. He's taking the whole thing very seriously, without a hint of celebration in the victory.
Dandelion chews his lip nervously and looks around... Looks like he's the only one left, then...
Quinten smiles up and manages to sit back up grinning at Bailey then looking somberly to Howard Good fight....how do you think i did Howard?
he looks at Bailey and winks I'll be fine miss
Howard offers the younger hare a hand Not too bad. Could have been better and it could've been a lot worse.
he seems a certainly a lot calmer than before, although it really isn't hard by comparison You did over stretch at the wrong moments and you could have done with less of the fancy stuff. Just hitting the other beast is better than pretending too.
Meanwhile, the doe steadies herself on the ropes, hopping up and smiling a bit. I tend to agree with that one, Sah. Get a direct hit whenever possible, and if not, haphasard blows are good to make the oponent dazed.
Uh... Sir?
Dandelion tries to get Howard's attention, unsure as to how he should adress the older hare.
Quinten nods and leans on the ropes Ri...i'll try better next time Howard.... and i didn't want to get too close, everytime we got in close you floored me
Howard stands up and nods That makes sense too I suppose
he says, replying to Quinten's remarks We better clear out quickly. There's a class in here next.
. He limps over to the ropes, himself aching and bruised, and ducks under them seating himself on the edge of the ring. Dandelion succeeds in catching his attention. What?
Quinten follows the older hair out of the ring and manages to reach a bench, collapsing onto it, still panting and winces at a few bruises, he's going to have to make yet another trip to the baths it seems
Dandelion clears his throat. Uh... I was supposed to have unarmed combat training, but I was delayed...
He chews on his lip again, obviously rather nervous. Are you the instructor, sah?
Howard hops down and wanders back over to the sac he was fixing before. Producing the needle and thread again. No. Sorry.
he says abrupt but unusually polite. He sits and goes back to work, previous frustrations having fizzled away.
Dandelion eardroops. Oh.
he says, and sighs a sigh that makes it evident he's painfully aware of the punishment for missing a class. He turns around, leaning back against the pole and stares at his feet in silence.
Bailey twitches her nose, looking awfully grimey from her journey here. She tilts her head and murmurs softly to the older hare, having hopped off the ring, Are the baths for residents, officers and recruits only, Sah? I'd really like to get the dust out o' me ears, eh wot?
Quinten smiles at Dandelion and waves a paw at him Nice to meet you wot, i'm Quinten don't look so down...
Howard looks up from repairing the bag. A little confused as to the sudden interest in him. I need to get a badge that says 'Not an Officer'.
he sighs They won't mind if you use the baths.
He says, trailing off distractedly.
Quinten stands up and stretches Well i'm off to the baths meself then a kip before i'm due for a lesson to later friends.
Dandelion is too busy sulking to notice the greeting. The buck slides down to sit on the floor, knees pulled up to his chest.
Howard glances up from his work at the sulking hare. Don't you have anything to be doing?
he calls across the room sternly as he tries to rethread the needle.
Dandelion frowns. Not really. I wanna put off meeting my mates for a bit.
He rubs his chin a little, but makes no effort to get up. Wasn' even my fault I was late...
he mutters to himself.
Howard having threaded the needle he goes back to sewing. If you were late you were late. Excuses will get you no where.
Dandelion sneers. Easy for you ta say. They're gonna think I was skippin' class 'cause I was scared.
Howard tuts at Dandelion and then winces as he shifts onto an unfortunate bruise. Not much you or I can do about that.
He says speaking from experience.
Dandelion shifts a little where he's sitting, and then suddenly stamps his foot in the ground out of frustration. I don't want'em thinking I'm scared!
Howard looks up from his work and stares at Dandelion with a measure of disapproval. First. Don't start pulling that hissy fit stuff with me bucko. Second. If you don't want to show them you're scared, prove you're not.
Hissy fit indeed. Dandelion frown and stamps his foot again. Like it was my fault I got elbowed on th' nose last time.
he growls, and jumps to his feet, boxing a little in the air.
Howard finishes the sewing and beings tying it off. Knowing you young lot it probably was.
he stands, picking up the large sand bag Look. Back when i was in training there was this one recruit who had this trouble. To prove it to us lot that he had the stuff he found the nearest officer and volunteered for a night patrol around the mountain. Alone.
Howard lies. Hardly willing to deal with a tantrum he tries to get the young one to go off and leave him alone.
Night patrol? Alone?
Dandelion glares at the older hare in disbelief. Not even the regular patrollers go out alone.
Howard shoulders the bag and makes for the door. His ruse evidently not working. No thats true. Of course, he didn't come back so its unsurprising why.
Dandelion shakes his head. Not much to do here, and now he's getting hungry too. Seeya...
he mutters and heads out, taking a swing at one of the posts of the boxing ring on his way past, which only earns him an aching right hand.
