Log: Dandelion, the lifeguard
Some distance down the shoreline, there's a dark form lying partially in and partially out of the water, looking rather unfortunately like a body. A smaller version of the same lies next to it, but after warming in the sun, two long hare ears rise up, shortly followed by the rest of the dibbun. She slumps next to the other body, just staring at it wordlessly.
Dandelion has been walking around on the shore, working his way up along it from the mountain. He's holding a flower in one hand, and from the looks of it he's looking for something to match it. Apparently he expects it to grow in the sand. The body is easier to spot, though, and he rushes over to examine.
Alysari doesn't look up as the older hare comes over, staring down at a hare who vaguely resembles her, but not all that much. Big green eyes are wide, and red around the edges. A tear slowly runs down her face, and she reaches out to tug at the young adult female's sleeve, ripped and dirty.
Darn it, healing classes haven't progressed to drowning yet, and Dandelion lived in the woods all the time. In fact, the sea is still rather intimidating. The little one looks like she manages for now, so he kneels down next to the larger, unmoving doe. The fact she's a doe complicates matters a bit, Dandelion is a little hesitant to touch her at first, but then places his ear at her chest to listen for a heartbeat...
...but there isn't one. Alys looks blandly at the older hare, then slowly shakes her head. "She's dead," she mutters, slurring a bit through exhaustion. Her paw strokes a bit of embroidery on her cousin's shoulder, trying to get some comfort out of the touch.
"Oh." Dandelion straightens up, feeling rather awkward. He's seen dead bodies before of course, but it's still awkward. "I'm sorry..." He looks carefully at Alysari. "Are... are you hurt? What happened?"
"Boat," she says simply. "I was with my cousins..." she points at her relative, "and my parents. Don't remember more dan de storm." Her face is blank, as if she's discussing something other than the deaths of her family. She also seems to be in something of a state of shock, not really moving.
Dandelion looks out at the sea with a shudder. "We need t' get you someplace warm. Can y' walk?"
Alysari shakes her head, wincing as she shifts to show him a less than pleasant looking footpaw with what appears to be a long spear of driftwood embedded in the bottom.
Bandages, bandages, where are the bandages? Dandelion frantically pats his pockets down, unable to remember where he put anything for a moment, and then produces a roll of bandages. "It's best t' fix'at in place..." he mutters, wrapping the paw and the spear in a neat little package as best as he can. "The spear keeps't from bleeding, I think." He looks around, but it doesn't seem like any of the other recruits are still out. He's on his own. "I'm gonna have t' carry you to 'at mountain." he says, looking to Alys, and then nodding to indicate the large volcano.
Alysari nods, wincing as he wraps her paw, but just silently lets him do it, then raises her little paws up, a clear gesture of 'pick me up' no matter what species.
Dandelion bends down and starts to slowly pick the doe up, shifting and adjusting carefully so he gets her into his arms without disturbing the foot and the spear too much. He manages to tuck her into his arms safely and still have a hand free to keep the spear in position, and then begins to walk slowly towards the mountain. "I'll get th' others to take care of her..." he murmurs, indicating the dead doe with a nod.
Alysari just buries her head in his shoulder, letting him take her where he will.
