Making New Friends in the Training Room

Alys is hiding out in the training room, then meets up with two beasts she knows, and a few she doesn't.
Salamandastron: Training Room
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
This is the training room for the hares of the long patrol. The walls
seem to have taken a severe beating, more than likely not from stray
arrows missing the archery targets. There are several of said archery
targets lining the west wall, each with small oak stands a good distance
off to hold arrows, hang a bracer, and rest a bow on. The targets are of
simple design: a large, tightly wrapped bale of hay with a coarse paper
target on the front. A wooden mannequin, in no better shape than the
walls, is in the northeastern corner of the room. Besides that, several
wooden practice swords sit in a small pile. On the eastern side of the
room is a small, makeshift wrestling arena consisting of two mattresses
tied together. Then on the southern side of the room is a fitness area,
assembled from several pull-up bars, and a nice padded area to do push up.
Narrow, cylindrical weights (both wooden and metal) are pushed up against
the wall, along with a few straight metal bars for them to be mounted on.

** THIS ROOM IS BROADCASTING **

Alysari is hiding in one corner of the training room, watching anybeast who enters while slowly picking through the bag of candied nuts she was given. The shadows hide her mostly, but a white hare can't hide in darkness.

Dandelion is too busy to look for hares in the corners, he's doing the same as the rest of his class - trying to hit a target with a sling. Or at least getting the pebble in about the right direction. He's already progressed part not hitting himself in the face, which is more than you can say for the hare standing next to him.

Alys' eyes occasionally drift back to Dandelion, the only hare she really knows, judging as he's the one who found her. The sling she doesn't understand, and the idea behind the exercise totally eludes her. Why throw stones at a painted target? Where's the fun in that?

Zeraph shifts into the room, rather close to the room as he has grown accustomed to doing lately, because of all the projectiles and thrashing beasts that usually take over the training area. The fighter glances back and forth over the group of recruits, recognizing Dandelion as the one who was having difficulties the other day. Then, the only strange sight at the moment catches the buck's eye. A child..off in the corner. He's become rather observant.

Well, Dandelion isn't exactly enjoying himself either, but there's a very strict officer with a loud voice around that keeps him from slacking off. So off goes another pebble against the target, and this one actually hits. Well, the target, if not the bull's eye.

Alysari notes Zeraph's entrance, and debates about waving. He was nice the other day. Yesterday? She's not sure, as everything has run together since she got here. Her memories seem all from one long day, so she can't really tell. The only thing that breaks up her days are meals, and her nightly exploring. She's not too fond of sleep.

Presently, Dandelion runs out of pebbles to fling at the unfortunate target and so, with a cautious glance to the hares on either side of him, walks up to the target to begin collecting already spent projectiles. Hopefully without getting hit by a stray.

Zeraph steps widely around the group to join Alys in the corner. The buck sits down here like a big dibbun himself, pulling his knees up and kind of hugging them. The shadows hide him a bit better, of course, but not much. Another glance is given over the recruits, before he smiles down at the leveret in a silent greeting.

Dandelion crawls around a bit, picking up pebbles until he gets a pocketful and returns to his place. Before he can get one off, though, he is interrupted by the officer who stalks up to him and starts correcting his stance using a somewhat harsh choice of words, as officers are wont to do.

Alysari is luckily distracted from the harsh words, smiling at Zeraph before adding quietly, "Hiyo."

"Enjoying the entertainment?" Zeraph would at the fact that most of them are /horrible/ but he doesn't. He tries to be a good example sometimes anyway.

With the new stance, Dandelion's accuracy improves a great deal,to the point where he hits the target with at least every other, or every third shot. On his right, the officer is telling the hare next to him exactly how bad his aim is, and what the officer feels about that.

Alysari shrugs, then points timidly at the nearest trainee's sling. "Whad'th dat? Whad're dey doin'?" It's a fair question from a leveret who has never seen weapons used before, and the most she's seen unused is a table dagger. That's what happens when you're raised by pacifists. Alys blinks down the line at Dandelion, then points at the officer, asking Zeraph, "An' hoo's dat?"

Zeraph leans back a little bit more. "Well, that's a lieutenant. He's teaching the recruits how to use slings." The hare tries to figure out how to explain this, then nods. "They are practicing their aim. You use a sling while in battle to save yourself from your enemies. The rock will hit them and stun them." Yeah..just stun them...

Alysari blinks at Zeraph, only understanding part of that. "Thling?" she tries out the new word. "Thling trowth rocktheth at de bad guyth?" She thinks she understood that much, but the word 'battle' is new to her. She thoughtfully watches the liutenant ever-so-gently telling off one of the lazy recruits, and again it's lucky she doesn't understand the language he's using.

Zeraph grins and nods at her somewhat understanding of the situation. "Aye..Maybe you'll learn how to use a sling one day. They're easy to use..not so easy to aim though." The buck winks at Alysari, then turns back to the trainees.

Not very easy indeed, but now Dandelion's really getting the hang of it. Well, it's easy enough here on a friendly target range, but...

Judging by what the trainee's are having trouble doing, she asks, "Aim mean to make go at target?" She gestures with her paw, estimating an imaginary straight line between her and the closest target. With her paw out, she decides to wave in Dandelion's direction, not that he's likely to see it.

As luck would have it, Dandelion does catch the wave out of the corner of his eye, and is distracted enough to send a pebble off at his neighbour's target. Well, at least it wasn't at his neighbour. He's a little surprised to see the doe again, and puts his sling away to go over and say hello.

Zeraph nods. "Aye. Aim is when you shoot at something. Well..throw the rock, I mean." He notes Dandelion making his way over and then turns a glance to the officer. The fighter is pretty sure that the Lieutenant will get ahold of the recruit soon enough, but he doesn't say anything.

Alysari sees Dandelion's stone go the wrong way and winces, but when it hits a target (if not his own) she relaxes. She stiffens yet again when he comes towards her, immediately assuming that he's coming to rebuke her, but then she forces herself to relax. No one here has hit her, so she's learning to not wince.

Zeraph just goes quiet to watch the other buck speak with the child beside him, then he decides to keep an eye on the officer, who is still busy with the other trainee, who seems near tears about now from all the rebuking.

Darklett has arrived.

Alysari smiles at Dandelion, nodding. "Yeth, tankoo. Futtpaw feel lot'th bettew."

Dandelion smiles. "Good to hear." He nods to Zeraph too, and then glances over his shoulder to see if anyone has started to note his abscense yet.

Terrance has arrived.

Alysari smiles between Dandelion and Zeraph, then glances at the busy recruits, following Dandelion's gaze. This reminds her of the new object. She reaches up to tug at Dandelion's paw. "Canna thee de... de..." she looks at Zeraph for the word. "Thling?"

Zeraph glances back down, after a light greeting to Dandelion and nods. "Yep. Slings." The buck looks again to the officer amidst the training hares.

Darklett's got his uniform back. :D The lieutenant marches quite proudly into the training room-- apparently this is his first time wearing it since he lost it. Stopping just inside, he scans over the room at the beasts present, and heaves a content sigh. Another wonderful Salamandastron afternoon.

Dandelion tilts his head. "Oh? Sure." He pulls the sling out of his pocket and hands it to the leveret - not loaded of course.

Alysari glances at the trainees, then folds it to hold onto like they're doing. "Like dith?" She twirls the unloaded sling once, getting it wrapped around her paw.

"Uh... sorta." Dandelion has developed that sixth sense all soldiers develops and which tells him when an officer approaches. There are now two officers in the room, and he's supposed to be practicing. But then, he can't just ask for his sling back... Instead, he tries to make himself small and unnoticable to scanning officer eyes.

Darklett heads on over to the rack with the training weapons on it, oblivious to the little one with the sling. After all, it's a vast training room, there's no way he could catch it unless he was lookin' for it. :) Retrieving his new found favorite, two short wooden training daggers, he spins around at the rack, looking for a partner.

Alysari shrugs, then offers the sling back to Dandelion, unaware that he's hiding from the officers. The concept of 'officer' hasn't really hit home yet.

Terrance is standing behind one line of trainees waiting for their turn at the targets, sling hanging loosely in a paw. He's made sure to put himself a few lines away from Tom and Flatpaw and so far has managed to stay out of their notice for the day.

Dandelion thankfully retrieves the weapon, and offers the doe a nervous smile. "I'll show you more later on." he says, and begins stalking back to his place.

Alysari nods, smiling after Dandelion, then she grins cutely up at Zeraph next to her. She knows how to make the best of being a cute dibbun.

Zeraph grins and half laughs. "I'm just glad I don't have to do that so often anymore." The fighter half nudges Alysari in a playful way, though definitely not enough to knock her over or anything. He glances up to Darklett now, watching him.

Alysari blinks at the patroller. "Why glad? Not fun?" To her throwing the stones around looks like playing. Given that she doesn't understand 'battle', she doesn't quite understand that a weapon is a serious thing, not a toy. She'd go around smacking the chairs and tables with a stick, pretending it was a sword... but not yet. Still too shy in a new place.

Darklett clicks his tongue against the roof of his mouth a few times, choosing to just wait on the outskirts of a few fights going on, waiting for somebeast to give up. He waves off a few offers to interrupt, and looks around, waiting his turn.

Dandelion sneaks back to his place by the target and looks around. Nope, neither one of the officers noticed his little excursion. He returns to his stance, and loads the sling with another pebble...

Zeraph shrugs lightly. "It's just..the officers I guess. The guys in charge. Which reminds me." The buck holds out his arms in offer to Alys if she wants another ride. "Want to go meet Dark?"

Alysari smiles at the offer and stands, wobbling a bit, and accepts his offer. "Who'th Dark?"

Darklett looks around to see if anybeast's open, starting to think he's actually being avoided. :P Alas, there's nothing, and he spins the fake daggers around his paws, humming to himself.

Terrance gets up to the front of the line and takes his three throws at the target. The first stone hits outside of the third right, high and right. His other two don't really hit much closer, one hits high and the other hits to the right. The fighter frowns and moves back to the end of the line. Looking around he spots Dandelion in the line next to him, "Allo there chap."

Zeraph hefts the child up into his arms, standing as he does so, pointing towards Darklett. "That's Dark. He's an officer. More specifically, a Lieutenant." The buck grins, deciding to explain, even if she doesn't quite understand. The fighter moves over towards the other buck. "Good day, Dark, sir."

Darklett's attention is grabbed by the greeting from Zeraph, and he turns around, seeing the pair of Zeraph and Alysari. "Ah! Afternoon, fighter Zeraph... I see you found yourself a new doe friend...?" He grins at the fighter, gripping one of the wooden daggers between thumb and forefinger, tossing the one in his right paw over his head, behind his back, and catching it in between his middle and ring fingers, extending a paw to shake the leveret's. "Ah, what's your name?"

Dandelion turns to nod at Terrance. "'ello. Target practice for you too?"

Alysari bites her lip as she smiles, embarrassed at the attention. "'M Alyth... thir." She shakes his paw lightly, unused to the formality. Then she brightens. "Zeraff'th my fwend," she states, ignoring the fact that the lietenant had been teasing the fighter.

Zeraph just half laughs at the Lt. "Seems like it.." The buck shakes his head though about the comment, shifting so that he is closer to Darklett, so he can speak with Alysari easier and coming to a halt. "What are /you/ planning then? Kicking someone else's butt?"

Ruggi has arrived.

Terrance nods, "Aye. Always have it at least once a week for us fightahs." His line shifts forward again and he looks back again, "So how's your training goin'?"

Dandelion shrugs. "Oh, I'm gettin' better at least. Act'ally manage to hit the target mos' of the time." He rolls his eyes and tosses his head at the liutenant in charge, who is now busy scolding yet another of the recruits. "Not that it impresses him much."

Ruggi walks into the training room, to see who's in there and stuff.

Darklett shrugs, looking back at all the other sparring beasts. "Yeah, hopefully. If I even get around to fighting at all today."

Terrance shrugs and looks towards the officer in chart, "Eh, just part o' tha environment." Looking back he asks, "How about the rest?"

Ruggi is actually here to practice his boxing.

Alysari looks Darklett up and down from her position in Zeraph's arms. "Gonna kick thumbeath'th bum?" she repeats, finding the question rather amusing. Then she leans over to whisper loudly in Zeraph's ear, "I coold kick hith bum."

Dandelion nods at one of the other hares. "That one can't seem to shoot straight. Even hit me, right 'ere." He points at his rear end. "Boy, did the liutenant tell 'im off after that miss!"

Zeraph starts to crack up at the whisper and nods. "Oh..yes, I believe you could." The buck grins towards Darklett, winking.

Terrance looks towards the hare in question and chuckles. "Actually I was talkin' about the rest of your training, but at least I know who to avoid from tha runnah's" he says with a grin.

Darklett raises his eyebrows, eyes widening. "Oh, I wouldn't doubt it. I'd be scared to see you with a weapon on the battlefield!" He puts his open paw to his forehead, feigning horror. "Zeraph, I don't understand how you can manage to hold a beast as big and strong as that one!"

Ruggi punches the mannequin's stomach area, then gives a swift uppercut to the lower jaw.

"Oh, that?" Dandelion shrugs. "Well, I got beat up in hand t' hand combat... Had t' see the healer."

Alysari puts up her paws as a boxer would, miming punches at Darklett. "Me no needth weapunth. I kick yah bum lika dis!"

Zeraph nods and half bounces the child, just to mimic the weaving patterns of boxers for the full affect. The fighter shakes his head now. "I don't know, really.." He sighs lightly.

Darklett grins at Alysari. "Ah, we have a boxer with us, fighter Zeraph. Better keep an eye on her..." He taps the side of his head, near his eye, then points at the little hare.

Ruggi decides to stop when he hurts his hand on the wood.

Dandelion steps up to position at the target, and starts to load his sling. "Oh, well, 'ere goes..." he mutters.

Alysari pouts. "I don' know 'ow ta be boxah," she admits in a loud stage whisper. "Need thumbeath ta teach me, thir." She sighs. "Learned how ta cook taday, tho. Made biiiiig meth."

Terrance chuckles and just watches, checking to make sure he's staying fairly out of sight of certain other fighter recruits before looking to the target.

Ruggi hears this, and cocks his ears.

Darklett smirks at the little leveret, stepping back and doing a couple bobs and weaves, throwing a couple punches to his shadow. "Ah, let's wait till you're a little older to teach you how to box, how's that?"

Zeraph goes to partly nuzzle one of her large ears, to try and make her feel better. "Oh, well, that's okay, Alys." The buck smiles lightly to her. "I'm sure Sorrel can teach you all she knows about boxing sometime."

Dandelion takes aim and flings... and overshoots the target by a lot, causing him to mutter a curse - another bad habit he's picked up since he came to the mountain.

Alysari pouts at Darklett, but then grins at Zeraph's suggestion. "Who'th Thorrel? Don' know 'er yet..."

Terrance hms. "Try aiming lower then what you want to hit chap."

"Well, Sorrel's a boxer. A darn good one too. One of the experts." Zeraph gives a glance to Darklett, before looking back to Alys. "You should meet her sometime."

Ruggi has left.

Darklett grins. "Well, you've definitely got the spirit for it, I'll tell you that." He's tapped on the shoulder by a buck who saw him, and wants to train. "Uh? Oh, sure thing." He looks to Zeraph with intent... "Don't let Sorrel teach her anything, she's not old enough yet." He winks, and then turns around to face his partner, a few paces away.

Alysari perks up, one ear standing up straight while the other flops flatly. "Need ta meet Thorrel..." she repeats. When Darklett says no, she pouts, but then a small sparkle appears in her eye. "Meet Thorrel, 'n' he don' need ta know, right?" This rather rhetorical question is directed in Zeraph's direction.

Dandelion flings away his remaining two shots rather unenthusiastically, and manages to hit the target with one of them. Then he decides it's time for a break, stuffing the sling in a pocket and heading for the closest bench, massaging his elbow as he goes.

Alysari sees Dandelion leave the sling line, and taps Zeraph's shoulder, pointing down. "Wanna go thee Dandewion."

Zeraph watches the Lieutenant walk away, then nods slowly. "Well, right, there's no harm in you meeting a new friend, ya know." The buck wouldn't let her be trained right now either, and if it comes down to it, he'd use her injured footpaw as an excuse. The fighter glances down as he is tapped, then looks towards Dan, moving towards him.

The Officer overseeing the recruits shakes his head a bit and looks out the window, "Alright recruits. You're dismissed for tha day. Drop off your slings and pebble pouches and get out o' 'ere!" He calls out. The recruits file in to return their equipment, already jabbering quite a bit as they smell freedom. After dropping off his own sling and pouch, Terrance walks back towards Dandelion, "Don't worry about it chap. Just takes practice is all."

Dandelion nods. "Yea, I was gettin' the hang of it, but my elbow's well and truly sore."

Zeraph halts in front of Dandelion, close to Terrance, still carrying Alysari around. The buck is quiet again.

Dandelion stands around, massaging his elbow a bit. "Oh, 'ello there."

Terrance nods and chuckles, "Aye, still get a sore arm now and again." Especially with the bruise on his right arm that never goes away.

Alysari smiles at Dandelion, asking Zeraph, "Down? Tankoo for de ride."

Dandelion grins. "I s'ppose moving targets are a lot worse, ey?" and then he turns to Alysari. "How are you gettin' on? Paw gotten any better?"

Alysari looks down at her leg and makes a face. "Yeth. Paw ith good. Tankoo for takin' care of me." Her face clouds for a moment before she looks down at the floor and asks quietly, "Where Zorra go? My cuzzin?"

Zeraph goes to kneel down to let the leveret get back on the floor, kind of reluctantly of course. He was just getting really used to that. The fighter straightens again, contemplating just heading off.

Alysari hops down, wincing before turning to smile back up at Zeraph. "Tankoo!"

Zeraph nods and smiles down at her. "Of course. You're welcome. Anytime." The buck goes to move out of the training room.

Dandelion tilts his head. "The one I found you with on the beach? Don' know where they put 'er."

"Oof! Ah, ya got me there, sah!" Darklett backs off his opponent with a grin, spinning his new favorite training weapons around his paws... Frowning as the opponent walks off for the evening. "...Huh." Now, he looks around again, for another opponent.

Alysari nods solemnly, biting at her lip. "Okay." She goes to the bench nearby and sits, footpaws swinging with several inches of air between them and the floor.

Seven has arrived.

Terrance chuckles and heads off with a nod and a wave, heading out the door.

Dandelion frowns a little as he sees the leveret's reaction. "Y'know, we can ask one of the officers..." He begins looking around for one.

Seven runs in through that particular door though, panting and skidding to a quick halt, though he is holding his middle again, where he was injured. The runner gives a look around, then grunts when he sees Darklett. "Sah!" The young buck moves forward. "There's a figh' on the beach, sah!" He didn't know what else to do.

Alysari shakes her head. "Nah, th'okay, Dandewion. I here now." The reasoning behind this statement seems to only make sense in her young mind, not within any logical older hare's brain. She looks up when Seven runs in, glad of something else to concentrate on.

"Eh?" Darklett turns to Seven, ears perked back. "...Alright. Lead the way!" Quick as a flash, Darklett's gone out the door.

Seven ducks out after him, quicker than normal. They are both soon gone.

Zeraph decides to follow /them/ then...
