Alys Arrives on the Beach
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shore ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A sea of sand surrounds the magnificent mountain now to your side. The golden sand is flat and hard, easy to walk on. You stand directly between the volcano and the sea. The refreshing sea spray tickles your face as a tropical wind from off the sea whisks it in your direction. The serene roar of the blue-green waves and perhaps the call of a distant gull are typically all that can be heard.
[DYN] Alysari
[DYN] Dandelion
Some distance down the shoreline, there's a dark form lying partially in and partially out of the water, looking rather unfortunately like a body. A smaller version of the same lies next to it, but after warming in the sun, two long hare ears rise up, shortly followed by the rest of the dibbun. She slumps next to the other body, just staring at it wordlessly.
Dandelion has been walking around on the shore, working his way up along it from the mountain. He's holding a flower in one hand, and from the looks of it he's looking for something to match it. Apparently he expects it to grow in the sand. The body is easier to spot, though, and he rushes over to examine.
Alysari doesn't look up as the older hare comes over, staring down at a hare who vaguely resembles her, but not all that much. Big green eyes are wide, and red around the edges. A tear slowly runs down her face, and she reaches out to tug at the young adult female's sleeve, ripped and dirty.
Darn it, healing classes haven't progressed to drowning yet, and Dandelion lived in the woods all the time. In fact, the sea is still rather intimidating. The little one looks like she manages for now, so he kneels down next to the larger, unmoving doe. The fact she's a doe complicates matters a bit, Dandelion is a little hesitant to touch her at first, but then places his ear at her chest to listen for a heartbeat...
...but there isn't one. Alys looks blandly at the older hare, then slowly shakes her head. "She's dead," she mutters, slurring a bit through exhaustion. Her paw strokes a bit of embroidery on her cousin's shoulder, trying to get some comfort out of the touch.
"Oh." Dandelion straightens up, feeling rather awkward. He's seen dead bodies before of course, but it's still awkward. "I'm sorry..." He looks carefully at Alysari. "Are... are you hurt? What happened?"
"Boat," she says simply. "I was with my cousins..." she points at her relative, "and my parents. Don't remember more dan de storm." Her face is blank, as if she's discussing something other than the deaths of her family. She also seems to be in something of a state of shock, not really moving.
Dandelion looks out at the sea with a shudder. "We need t' get you someplace warm. Can y' walk?"
Alysari shakes her head, wincing as she shifts to show him a less than pleasant looking footpaw with what appears to be a long spear of driftwood embedded in the bottom.
Bandages, bandages, where are the bandages? Dandelion frantically pats his pockets down, unable to remember where he put anything for a moment, and then produces a roll of bandages. "It's best t' fix'at in place..." he mutters, wrapping the paw and the spear in a neat little package as best as he can. "The spear keeps't from bleeding, I think." He looks around, but it doesn't seem like any of the other recruits are still out. He's on his own. "I'm gonna have t' carry you to 'at mountain." he says, looking to Alys, and then nodding to indicate the large volcano.
Alysari nods, wincing as he wraps her paw, but just silently lets him do it, then raises her little paws up, a clear gesture of 'pick me up' no matter what species.
Dandelion bends down and starts to slowly pick the doe up, shifting and adjusting carefully so he gets her into his arms without disturbing the foot and the spear too much. He manages to tuck her into his arms safely and still have a hand free to keep the spear in position, and then begins to walk slowly towards the mountain. "I'll get th' others to take care of her..." he murmurs, indicating the dead doe with a nod.
Salamandastron: Infirmary
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
This is the infirmary for the long patrol. This room is one of the most
well lit rooms in the whole of Salamandastron, with several candles placed
strategically along the shelves and cupboards. Many wooden beds line the
walls of this room, each outfitted with impeccably clean white linen
sheets. This unfortunately limits the walking space in this room. Where
there are not beds there are shelves and cabinets that hold a variety of
different medical equipment, mostly needles and bandages. A single stone
sink is firmly lodged into one of the counters. The sink is not fancy, in
fact it is quite awkward. It is a necessity, nonetheless. An open closet
is in the corner of the room, storing a surplus of compact cots, in the
unusual case of mass injuries. The room usually has several nurse hares in
it, roaming around tending to various injuries.
[Out] to Level Three, [Herb] Room
** THIS ROOM IS BROADCASTING **
With:
[DYN] Seven
[DYN] Alysari
Seven looks around, sitting on his cot and seeming like he is doing a lot better than he was the other day. The runner's brows furrow in thought, at the lack of healers in the room, but then again it's perfect..for what he's planning. The young buck gets off of the bed, ears twitching and listening for noises.
Alysari is carried in, her face buried in Dandelion's shoulder. He deposits her on a bed, quickly writing a note to whomever comes in first, then pats her head and heads off to class. Alysari looks around, slumped and dejected.
Seven has gone rather still in that moment that Dandelion moves into the room, remaining leaned back against the bed. He calms slightly as he notes it is just a recruit, but a curious look is given to Alysari, ignoring the other buck as he heads back out. The runner shifts and moves towards the dibbun. "Child? Are you alright?"
Alysari looks blankly at Seven for a moment, then down at her footpaw. "I hurt," she states, then falls silent, shrinking down onto the bed in childlike dislike of new places and new beasts.
Seven nods slowly, then smiles at Alysari. "Do you mind if I look at it?" It is standard that all the patrol are taught some knowledge of healing when they are still recruits, just so they can keep themselves alive in bad situations. The runner reaches out a paw slowly, so as not to frighten her.
Alysari shrinks backward a bit more, but then bites her lip and nods. "Go 'hed."
Seven gently picks her footpaw up, cradling it in the palm of his paw, while the other rests lightly on the toes. "'M Seven, by the way." He gazes over the injury, ears lowering back, slightly.
Alysari tries to smile, but it's just a tiny twitch of her lips. It takes her a moment to work up the guts to speak. "'M Alyth." Her 's' comes out more like a 'th' than anything else, but what can one say when one is missing a front tooth?
Seven grins, looking around for the supplies he needs to get the piece of wood out. "That's a lovely name." The buck sets her footpaw back down for a moment, rubbing his middle subconsciously, as his own wounds begin to hurt him again. "I'll be righ' back, kay?" He moves across the room.
Alysari nods silently, big green eyes widely watching his movements around the room. Her ears are drooping, falling down the sides of her head blandly. Normally a hare's ears are the most descriptive part of them, but Alys is feeling rather poorly.
Seven returns with a few supplies, setting them atop the side table. He thought he'd be escaping the room, not playing doctor. The snipe returns her foot gingerly to his paws. "So, wha' happened?" The buck is trying to distract her, in preparation of pulling the wood out.
"Boat. Thtorm." Alys' eyes close partway, withdrawing from the conversation topic. "Wuz hurt when I woked up."
Seven just decides not to push it then. "Alrigh'. Now this may hurt'a little." He has already begun to rub the mixture of herbs around the wound, to help with numbing and infection before he actually takes the object out. Good thing he paid attention. The runner gets a good hold on the piece of wood, going to tug it out as painlessly as possible.
Alysari winces, biting her lip almost hard enough to draw blood. But she doesn't cry out, and indeed the sliver of wood comes out cleanly. Hard to tell, but it looks all in one piece. A tear leaks out of the corner of Alys' eye, then one from the other.
Seven immediately deposits the sliver off the the side, picking up some gauze instead, to press gently to the wound after he spreads the herb more now that the obstruction is missing. Well..Zoe always /did/ want him to be a healer. He proceeds to bandage the footpaw. "Ye alrigh'?" The runner asks sympathetically. "Ya did marvelous..very brave." He offers her the kindest smile he can give.
Alysari tries to smile, but she's still biting her lip and it comes out looking odd. She nods slowly, releasing her lip and attempting a better smile.
Seven goes to put all the unused supplies back, while depositing the sliver of wood elsewhere. "Tell me..ya hungry, then?" Everything is replaced exactly where it was before, then he moves over to the dibbun again, trying to hide the fact that he's sore and tired already.
Alysari shakes her head, then slowly points at him, and the bed next to her.
Seven gazes at her for a moment as he pauses, then smirks, shaking his head. "Kay, then." The sniper pulls himself up onto the adjacent bed, lounging here for a moment. He glances at Alys, as if expecting something else.
Alysari smiles, managing better this time. "You hurt?" she asks, cute in dibbun worry.
Seven nods slowly. "Yeah..some time back, though.." The runner leans his head back onto the pillow. "..still hurts.." He half closes his eyes.
Alysari scoots down the bed towards her own pillow, eyes on the other hare. She's avoiding touching the footpaw to anything, but that's understandable. "Letcha thleep?"
Seven sighs. "Nah. Tha's fine..'m good for now." He manages a light smile. "What 'bout you?" The sniper is gazing at the ceiling.
Alysari shakes her head. "Juth woked up. Don' need thleep." She's quiet for awhile, then snuggles down into the pillow anyway, stretching her injured footpaw out. "Theven'th a funny name..." she giggles after awhile.
Audri has arrived.
Seven grins more again, laughing lightly. "Yeah...i' is, isn' it?" The buck rolls over so that he is laying on his side, facing the child again, one arm dangling off the side of the bed. "My paren's are either lazy..or inventive.."
Alys' face falls at the word 'parents', and she's silent for awhile. Her eyelids droop, but she forces them open again. "No' gunna thleep..." she mutters.
Seven gazes up at her for a moment, ears tilting back, then he looks back down. "It'd help ya heal, if ye did." The buck just decides not to question her right now. Just in case he brings up something sensitive.
Two tufted ears appear at the infirmary door while Audri peeks quietly into the room. She takes a quick survey of the room, sighing when she doesn't spot whoever she's looking for.
Alysari makes a face. "Don' wanna thleep. Nobeetht gunna make me!" She seems overly adamant about this, but then realizes how forceful that was and shrinks back, expecting some kind of punishment.
Seven shrugs. "Sure thing." The runner looks up slightly as he notices movement out of the corner of his eye, half smiling a greeting to Audri before laying back down. Well /he's/ certainly not going to punish her.
Audri grins, waving when she's spotted but stays in the hallway. "'lo."
Alysari looks where Seven does, and one ear finally perks up with interest, if only for a short moment. "Hello," she whispers from her bed, eyes wide as she peers over the edge of the bed at the squirrel.
Seven rests his arms over his eyes as he shifts again onto his back. "Come join us..we're loungin'." Lazy speech.
Audri's ears pin back, noticing the leveret's reaction to her, shaking her head to the buck. "No thanks. I'm fine out here."
Alys' ears twitch. "C'm in?" she asks quietly. "Whath yer name?"
Taye has arrived.
Audri looks hesitant, but steps inside, rubbing her arm idly. "'m Audri." She mumbles quietly, resting back against the wall. "How'd ya hurt yaself?"
One of Alys' ears curls around to point at herself. "Me?"
Audri nods. "Yea. I figured ya got hurt since the infirmary isn't ta much fun."
Having been walking past, the conversation drifting out into the hallway from the infirmary catches Taye's ears and so he pauses, glancing in the doorway.
"Yer tellin' me." Is all that they get out of Seven, even /if/ his opinion wasn't needed.
Alysari nods slowly, ear turning to point at her footpaw. "Go' a thplinter. Biiig thplinter."
Audri smirks, propping her leg back against the wall, paw still rubbing her arm idly. "Ooh. Well, that's a rather serious injury there. Splinters are right awful things."
Alysari frowns slightly, not sure if the older girl is teasing her. "It hurt'th."
Seven seems to have dozed off a little, arms still rested over his eyes. One ear is cocked towards the conversation, though.
Audri nods, pushing off the wall to walk over to Alysari's cot. "I'm sure it does. I had a really bad splinter once. The trick ta get it ta stop hurtin' is candy." Grinning, Audri pulls out a small bag from her pocket, holding it out for the leveret. "Ya can have this iffen ya like."
Taye watches the exchange from his vantage point in the doorway. At Audri's actions, he grins.
Alys' eyes widen considerably. "Really?" she whispers, as if the other dibbun's actions are completely incomrehensible.
Seven would state something crazy like 'candy's the devil's food', if he wasn't so out of it at the moment.
Audri nods, grinning still. "Sure. I can always get more iffen I need ta."
Alysari smile breaks out slowly, until it lights her entire face. She reaches out to take the bag, fumbling to get it open and peek inside.
Seven yawns deeply and wakes from his light doze enough to glance over to the two dibbuns, before his eyes close again and a yawn takes control, once more.
Audri steps back, watching Alysari. "Hope ya footpaw feels better." Inside the bag lies candied chestnuts and crystallized candies.
Once the exchange has taken place, Taye moves further into the room. He steps up grinningly behind Audri, then reaches out quickly to grab/poke at her sides. "Boo!"
"Aeeee!" Audri jumps a good foot off the ground, brushtail frizzing up in surprise. She quickly turns around, giving a return poke to Taye's middle. "Ya tryin' ta scare me ta death o' somethin'?"
Seven is actually startled into a sitting position by all of it, pulling his arm around his middle in response to the pain that shoots up from his wounds. "Oy! Wha's the big idea?!" Then he lays back down, rolling over so that his back faces the others.
Alysari has fallen slowly asleep, candies in each paw. She's had a long day.
