History of Aclidia

Eight hundred seasons ago, according to the record books of the city, the first Aclides lived in the land of Koliton across the great sea. Their name was derived from their ancestor, the warrior-queen Aclidia, who, upon conquering the land of Koliton, turned her powers to the pursuit of knowledge and decreed the study of medicine the particular concern of her descendents. The natives of Koliton, however, distrusted the knowledge of the Aclides, preferring to place their trust in the charms and traditions of their ancestors. These commoners as last refused to till the soil of the Aclides, their masters and betters, and rose up in revolt. Thus the Aclides were driven from Koliton, and for five generations they roamed the sea as pirates, until they came upon the country south of Mossflower. Here they discovered a fine harbor and a city of weak vermin, whom they conquered and made their slaves. Upon discovering hot springs in the hilly country about the city, the Aclides declared it sacred ground and made a pact to name the city after their honored ancestor and dwell there for all time.

Since that day, Aclidia has become a center of the slave trade, a thriving harbor for pirates, and a destination for many afflicted with illness, who seek remedies from the city's physicians and its hot springs. Many come to enjoy not only the springs but also the many entertainments that have grown around them, making the city a destination for entertainment and diversion.
